ABCs CART coverage the last couple years was the most dreary miserable broadcasting I;ve seen... it was clear they were just reluctantly doing the minimum to run out their contract.

Although I hate CBS football coverage, who knows, give them the benefit of the doubt....

Sorry, what F1 needs isn't better TV coverage, its some competitive racing. CART was (and still is) 10 times better as a sporting event.

I'm a certified F1 fan since before the wing, and I can barely bring myself to watch a full race without multi-tasking. I think if I had to I might confess to a crime....

I say get rid of the aero, put them on 8 inch tires and watch the fun....

Bill,
I wouldn't be surprised if ABC got the USGP and Monoco, maybe a couple others. Just when you thought it was bad it could still get worse....

And another thing..... all we get know are voice-overs to the "global feed" the netowrk producers have no control over what is shown, and just have to wing it. If they had their own production that would help alot.... probably thats all CBS will get too.... phooey.

BTW the announcers are the best part of the show. i'll miss that!

Without being too much of a nerd, you would have to overcome the issues of video formats (NTSC vs PAL/SECAM) and be able to have line of sight to a European geosynchronous satellite and be within its terrestrial footprint.

In other words, I'm afraid not.

Speed TV sez they " Remain Homet of Formula 1 racing!" in 2005 !

The Speed network will carry 15 races live, including the US Grand Prix!!!

Looks like CBS has bought the rights to four F-1 races, the balance to remain with Speed. The only race 'listed as live' seems to be the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal! Are the others going to be shown on a "tape delay" basis? Does anyone know?

Gosh, I hope they aren't tape delayed. When the races start a 7:00 AM I can usually get my wife to let me skip church. I can't believe my excuse is going away for 4 races. (3 actually) She's getting wise to all my other excuses.

Geo,

In case you are wondering what happened to that A arm. The guy that gave it to me wanted it back immediately, so he could write an article, and I am dickering with him over it. If I sent it to you all, could I get it back? I would be glad to pay postage. (Sorry about the off subject)

I remember CBS covering F1 races in the mid-70s and they did a pretty good job, IIRC. Barry Gil, James Hunt & Ken Squier were the commentating team and I thought they were pretty decent. I think the last F1 race I saw on CBS was the 1988 USGP @ Detroit. I think if they can get the right team in there, they can do a pretty decent job (not the crew from ABC!). Perhaps they can hire the SpeedTV crew?

speed doesn't want our business, we're (I'm) difficult. What no Paris to Dakar! for shame speed. Next they will get rid of my beloved Motorcycle Racing, but it won't stop till you've be converted to mindless nascar vision or cascar? e
a really unhappy customer, making waves.

It just dawned on me that the first F1 race I ever saw was on CBS. It was the Monaco Grand Prix of 1961, and it is what started me liking F1. Stirling Moss in a Lotus 18 (I think) beat Richie Ginther in a Ferrari. It's amazing I can remember that race better than the races I saw last summer.

Phil Hill was in second place and couldn't keep with Moss. Hill was in a 60 degree V6, and Ginther was in the new 120degree V6 car, so Hill let him past, so he could chase the Lotus, but he couldn't get past him.

I can't remember the name of the Program, but I am 100% sure it wasn't Wide World of Sports, which was on ABC.. ABC covered later races with WWS, but the 61 Monaco was on CBS.

Excuse my tripping down memory lane.

Bill,

That was arguably Moss' best win in F1. I remember seeing some great photos of that race and I'll never forget the panels that were taken off Stirling's car because it was too hot (legs were exposed).
