New Track in NJ
#5
This from early December:
""We will be preparing for the land development site plan application," Savaro said. Full engineering drawings are being prepared for phase one of the three-phase project. "We're looking at a period of 60 to 90 days for plan preparation."
If things continue on course, groundbreaking would take place in late spring or early summer, according to Savaro, with the Thunderbolt Raceway opening in the late spring or early summer of 2006.
The biggest change is removing the oval track from phase one to either phase two or three in order to accommodate the noise concerns, Savaro said."

I think that this facility will be close to schedule for there are no extra hearings as there was for Bill Scott..The area is excited about this facility....so the only unknowns is the weather. Hey Larry...we can go back to my house between run groups...

Based on what I've been reading these past couple of months, there's more than a 50% shot:
1. The town and local government is backing this project.
2. The folks who revitalized VIR are the same builders of this new NJ track.
3. From what I've heard, it is in the middle of nowhere which means there won't be neighbors calling on sound ordinances.
4. It is supposed to bring an economic boom to an area that could use a shot in the arm.
I am surprised that they are planning on breaking ground so soon.

That is funny...
... Around here a Private Citizen (not major corp) built race track just off the end of the runway of the largest F-16 training base in the country.
Guess what... it got shut down in less than 1 year because the track made too much noise.

My source on the scene tells me there are bull dozers there now, just parked though. BTW it is next to an airport and the town folk WANT it big time.
Can't wait, world class track 1hr from me!

Danville, VA was a dying old mill town without much of a future. Along came VIR, and the developers who worked very closely with the town and local government to make the project a success. Since VIR opened, four new hotels and several new restaraunts have been opened in Danville, and the local economy is booming. The town is very supportive of the track.
I'm sure this has been played heavily in presenting the NJ project, as well it should!
