Default PCA Club Race Rules...Again

I got the latest PCA Club Racing "mag" and noticed they had the proposed (or final??) rules listed in the publication...and something troubled me.

Someone please clarify, as I'm sure it's as simple as black and white:

For Stock Classes, they are requiring a ONE PIECE racing seat now?? I read this as we're going to have to go to a fiberglass or aluminum type racing "bucket" seat like the Sparco Evo or the Recaro Pole Position??

So, that means that I can no longer use my beloved Recaro SRD.

In case I read this wrong...someone please clarify.

Next year, I'm sure they won't allow sliders!

Jeff,

Those changes are also posted on the PCA Club Racing web site at www.pca.,org, and yes, the adopted rule change calls for a one piece seat next year.

I'm not positive, but that is what I think the rule implies.

Likely some issue w/ the seatback locking mechanism being a liability in a heavy rear impact. Of course, isn't that what the seatback brace is for?

IMHO, no two piece seat is up to the stress of a high G rear impact. The seatbrace is a last resort (and some real debate about its safety also). Sliders also compromise safety... the seat should be firmly bolted to a strutural member of the body.

The PCA rules should be considered the minimum... not the optimum.... to me you can;t afford not to use the best most comprehensive safety equipment configuration possible... lots of good threads on RL in the past on this.

I personally don't like the change (as I must change my car) to a "detached" seat back reinforcement. I already have mine attached to my Sparco.

When it comes to safety, a one piece seat is the only way to go. I have heard of people backing into a wall, the seat sliding backwards and callapsing with the person still inside, serious back injuries! If you're gonna race, there's no need to chance things, get the best safety equip out there, you only have one life!
