Default Forced Air Helmet

I just bought one of those force air coolers. I came with everything I need except the helmet. I wanted to buy a Snell 2005 force air helmet, either a Bell of GForce, but found out it will be next October before they will be available. My Bell M2 is just over a year old, so I would like to wait till Oct 2005 to buy a new helmet. I remember seeing a force air thingie that super glues to the side of your existing helmet, but now that I want one I can't find one. I have tried Racer Wholesale, and about 10 other companies, but no one seems to know what I am talking about. I know I saw one advertised in some catalog a year or so ago, but now I cant find it. It may have been Pegisus (Or however the heck it is spelled.), but I can't even find out how to get a catalog.

Can anyone help?

Much thanks, in advance,

Bill, given the cost of the conversion, and the price of a new G-Force helmet, I'd highly recommend taking a close look at the G-Force. It's just a bit over $100 more than the conversion. Then there is the fact the G-Force is a Kevlar/Fiberglass helmet to boot. I love mine, although I've barely used it. The quality (IMHO) is better than Bell.

Wreck me Otter: Thanks for the web site.

Geo, are the conversions really that expensive? I guess I'll check on the G Force. By the way, did you buy that HANS new? Is that the carbon fiber, or the fiberglass one? Obviously it works with the G Force. What do you think of the G Force head restraint? I haven't seen anyone use one, but the price is right. I am not sure I can affort $1,100 or better for the Hans.

Thanks again fellas,

Bill, it looks to me like the conversion would run you $175. For another $125 you end up with a Kevlar/fiberglass helmet. Something to think about.

Yes, I bought the HANS new. It's the economy model (includes some fiberglass). I bought it when I went to the ARRC last month. I'm glad I did because I need the large. I have a 17/17.5" neck putting me on the fence between the regular and the large according to their web site. For me at least, the regular wasn't even close to a consideration. The current cost is $865. Also, I got the most recent production which includes some friction material on the shoulder "wings" to keep the belts in place. The large also comes with the lip on the edge of the "wings" also to keep the belts in place.

I considered the G-Force restraint for a short time. The price seemed right. But in the end I decided I like the way the HANS works. I like the fact the restraint straps to the helmet are set up in such a way to minimize the head tilting forward (straps are largely horizontal). The only other H&N restraint I really considered was the Isaac. I also met Gregg Baker (of Isaac) at the ARRC and can tell you he's a really good guy and takes great care of his drivers.

On the modified helmet idea, I would be concerned about modifying the shell of the helmet and compromising the integrity. Personally, I would like to modify a helmet since now that I have a full containment seat I cannot use my side hose. I would like a hose that connects to the top/back of the helmet going rearward to keep as much mobility to my head. For now, I guess I will just stick to the cool shirt without helmet blower which really stinks since I live in south Florida.

BTW, I second Geo's suggestion about the G-Force which I also use. A great bargain in the quality helmet section.

I think the modification uses existing holes in the helmet, so all that happens is super glueing the inlet to the helmet. I guess if you wanted to put the inlet on tom, you would have to make a new hole. I agree, I don't think I would do that. But if you race in Fla, ya gotta have something. I roasted last April at Rennsport II. When I was there last year in July, Well, I don't think I have ever been that hot.
