Can anyone tell me how to mount a Sparco Ultra race seat as low as possible and meet PCA racing rules. The seat is FIA approved so I don't think I need a seat back brace. Do I remove the stock brackets so the seat will rest on the pan and bolt it there? I need about 3 more inches of head room. Thanks

I know one person that removed the stock welded rails and mounted the side mounts directly to the floor, for additional headroom, in a PCA club racer. Might consider whether you want to weld any plate to the floor outside for additional reinforcement where the bolts go through the floor.

Three inches?
Car dependant of course, but that will be hard to get. You don't mention what you are presently using, both car and seat-wise. Deleting most manual seat rails will not give you that much. Power rails might indeed. Going from a stock seat to race should give you plenty. The real trick is in getting them placed correctly.
If you have a seat conducive to using the side mount brackets that most manufacturers offer, that is probably the easiest solution. I myself am not overly enthused about the material strength of some of the ones I've seen... unless they are steel. Your call.
Take your time and study the market, and what others have done. Anyone can throw seats in a car, but to get them really right is not an easy task. Education is a good thing here.

I just went through this last weekend.
I bought an Ultra to replace the Momo seat in a 914 race car.
My daughter also drives the car at DE's and I needed the ability to adjust the seat so we went with the Sparco tracks.
We ended up cutting out the floor and building a new dropped pan to accomidate the new seat. It's still close but ok with the seat cushions removed.
It was a major pain in the ***.

I sit pretty darn low in my 944. I bolted the factory sparco (Sparco Pro2000) rails down through the floor and used large plates on the back side to back-up holes. You can also "sit" lower by removing the bottom seat cushion. I can't do that since I would not be able to see over the steering wheel.

I have a Sparco Evo II in my SC. I removed the sliders and attached it directly to the seat rail using the Sparco side mounts. This got me about an inch, but I can't move the seat now. Removing the pads will get you another half inch or so.
I think the only way to get it an further is to go straight into the floor which can be a big hassle.
Good luck.
