Now to correct a couple things ceboyd said (sorry Chris
) ... She was running Victoracers that delaminated after about 4 track days and that's why she installed the Dunlops Saturday. Not sure why ceboyd thought they were "done" after 2 sessions. I thought they looked just fine, except of course for the moderate chunking on the outside edges of the front tires. I'll post a pic as soon as I can reach her. She was overall very happy with the tires, and I personally didn't think anything of the chunking. Sam and Jeff- I'm no tire expert, but these tires (purchase Sat a.m. direct from Tire Rack's IN location) indicate "1102" on the side, which I'm told means they were made in the 11th week of 2002. FWIW.

OK. I *know* her from Audiworld. Good to hear the SSRs weren't so bad afterall. Based on what I'd read here I ordered a set for my 996 and recommended them to some friends w/S4s.

Here's the Dunlop SSR after just 1 or 2 sessions on the Audi S4 fronts. Chunking on the outside edge. Keep in mind that this is a 3600 lb front-engine car with just 225 width tires. So I don't know if you'd get this on a P-car.

My O2C2 has a stock setup. I wear the outer front whether I use the MPSC or SSR. I don't even run the Contis except on the street and they wore on the ouside edge when I took them on the track a few times when I first got the car. I've never gotten this chunking on any of the tires used. My times are about the same with either the MPSC or the SSRs.

Those pictures definitely indicate improper pressures and/or improper alignment/camber for the tire. I just got back from an Event at Pahrump Nevada where there were three cars running these tires. None of them had any issues with the tire chunking and 2 out of three liked the tires. The third was a newer driver that once they get better will like the tire as well. This track was particularly hard on tires and they held up very well over a two day period. Better hurry to tire rack... (no affiliation to tire rack whatsoever!)

I ran the Dunlops 245/285 for three sessions this weekend at the Hallett club race in the DE. The track is very rough and I've heard can eat up tires. They felt great and wore very evenly - no chunking. I'm going to get another set.

While Kary may be correct, technically...I've been running a 245 series tire on an 8" rim (front of my 964 racecar) for about 3 years now...with no issues. They don't seem to be "bulbous" or have irregular wear.
It's the tire manufacturers that suggest an 8.5" rim width.
