Nice get, Bill. Some of the local guys have fabricated a cooler+12V pump, but this sounds even better. Looks like a steady supply of them after they serve their initial post-op purpose. Good hunting!

Tony

Yeah, I'll bet there are thousands out there. The nice thing is that they come with the correct fittings. I think that most of them are on Ebay from insurance companies, at least that is where mine and Jud's came from. If you could find out from a Dr. or hospital or medical supply company who has one that is no longer needed, I'll bet you could get them even cheaper.

I got a shiny silver/grey and white Sparco and would not even consider a dark suit! They are ALL hot in the summer conditions many of us have to endure. Why make it worse on yourself?

OK. Here's a crazy idea...

Do they make a cool "head cover"?

If not, I wonder if one could be made?

The reason I ask is that I use an Isaac H&N device and I don't think you can get a forced air system to work with it. I also use a Butler Built set that has head supports on the side. So that's two strikes against me.

I know of a couple of 944 racers here in Colorado that use a forced air system with their Isaac systems so that shouldn't be an issue...

Jim,
There was a recent thread on cool shirts that mentioned a new shirt with an integrated 'cool hood'. Not sure of the source, but a search on cool shirt might find it.

I didn't think I had room for the hose with the Isaac and the side head restraint, but after looking at some picture my wife took, it looks like I do. The problem is I just bought the helmet w/o the forced air option, as I didn't think it would work.

I suppose the forced air fitting could be retroed on there cheaper...

APKhaos. I'll have to do a search, as it might be cheaper.... if it fits under my helmet.

Not sure how a "cool hood" would work without changing the way the helmet fits on your head.

I agree about the fit problem, but this must have been a consideration in the design. They may have a clever solution using small diameter tubing [conjecture - I have no info on this]. Considering that we can cram a nomex balaclava, radio earphones and such into the brain bucket, maybe it is possible??

>>Update: The hooded cool shirt looks like the same technology as before, just added the hood. Check the pic at http://www.coolshirt.net/hooded.htm

Tony,

My cool box came with a cooler for the knee, I tried putting that under my helmet, but it was pretty snug. I guess I could get one size bigger on the helmet, but then I would have to use two helmets, one for the cool thing, and one for without. I plan on building one with the air hose, because I have to get a new helmet next year anyway, and I will just get one with the hose connector. By the way, I think Racer Wholesale, or someone sells a glue on connector for helmets without one.

FAST can retro one on, but it's like $175. My new helmet was only $300. I'll just wait and see how the shirt does.

The best price I have found on suits (Sparco) comes from Chaste Automotive. I have no affiliation with them and I have not as yet purchased anything from them. Once we get a little more into the season, I'll place the order.

Back to the original question 'is a black suit too hot'?

Average temp at Summit Point last weekend was 40 and below, with a stiff breeze all Friday and Saturday. I was too darn cold in jeans and sweatshirt. Pulled on the trusty driving suit [light color, as if that matters] and it was nice and toasty warm. I think that says it all.
