Question Club Race AC rule

In looking at the club race rules, it says the belt for the AC can be removed. What about cars that came from the factory with no AC. In looking at 911SC's I see some up north do not have an AC. Does an AC have to be retrofited to the car to stay in a stock class?

What class are you look to run in? F? In that case you MUST leave it in. Really, if AC was a US option, key work option, then I think you could take it out. You must take everything out not just the compressor (lines ,cooler, etc) but I think you wouild want to do that anyway. Dont take my word, check with PCA scruits and print off their response for you glove box when you go thru tech the first time.

I have a note from Tom Charlesworth that says on 911SC's, you can remove the a/c and remain in G stock, as a/c was optional on the 78-79's.

Thanks Bill,

I'm trying to figure out what to look for when buying a 78-79 911SC for G stock.
I have seen some without a sunroof and AC. I guess I will look for that now, instead of looking for one with an AC.

Mark,
You dont need to find a rare non sunroof/AC car. These will be premium delete items for racers. Find a good car and tear the AC out. It does not have to be a option delete on the option sticker, just as long as it was a factory option to have the AC deleted.

If I were looking for a 911SC for G stock, I'd want an 81-83, for it's metal fuel injector lines, as opposed to the earlier plastic ones, and the somewhat simplified emissions setup that came with the catalytic converter in 1980. Then, as Eric said, rip out the a/c (which is pretty easy to do). If you haven't already, you might want to look at the 911SC FAQ on tech.rennlist.com that talks about some of the upgrades you'll make on your way to creating a G stock 911SC racer.

Make sure You speak to Jim Buckley as he has won for years in G, has built a number of fastest lap in G class cars and has an awesome G car for sale right now if I remember correctly.

I saw something on this in the April 2003 issue of Club Racing News. Donna Amico wrote a piece about last year's Sebring race and how removing the A/C was not an option if all cars delivered to the US had A/C. The Chief Scrut cited the 3.2 Carrera as an example of cars which need to have their A/C's in place.

I have recently put in a rule change proposal that would allow everyone in stock class to remove the A/C systems. Why? Because none of us use them and it's a very expensive way to make weight. By removing the system and putting the weight back with ballast, you can sell all the A/C stuff which would help offset the cost of racing.

Cheers, James

Also by removing the a/c components, wouldn't you get better engine cooling because you would be removing the evaporator (?) as well?

Absolutely! That's a real pet peeve of mine. It can't happen fast enough.

James:
I'm with you on the A/C. No need for it in a racecar. However I don't think there's much chance of a rule change since this proposal is made regularly and denied.

Mitch, Mark:
I know of an E car with a long PCA race history that has been teched regularly [podium tech] without comment. The AC condensor has four neat six inch holes cut through the core for increased cooling.

Just a thought.
