Default Snell 2025

For those of you who’ve been doing this for a while…. Any idea of when the snell 2025 helmets will be available for purchase? Based on past history, are helmets with the certification typically released for sale before the year of the certification? Ie, were 2020 helmets available in 2019?

also, does anyone have any sense of what will be changing?

The last two times (2015 and 2020) they were almost a year late in getting them out.

And because of past delays in availability, sanction bodies in the past have extended rules beyond 10yrs. Its not like something magically happens at 10 years (or 5). But keeping a helmet for 10 years that has seen a lot of use from a hygiene perspective alone can encourage a mid 5 year cycle replacement strategy, so at least "prompt" release dates become less of a concern.

our club allowed 1 extra year on the 2010 models due to delays.

https://moleculesports.com/product/h...-4-oz-sprayer/

i buy it in the bigger bottles but it works great for "cleaning" helmets.

Snell dictates that the model year change can't be made available until the end of that year. i.e. 2025 will not be available to be shipped to dealers or customers until usually October 2025.
They have a timeline that goes something like: mid 2024 the manufacturers submit their helmets, approval is mid 2025, then they can start manufacturing the new spec in about June, and can't aren't allowed to ship anything until October of that year.

This is why most sanctioning bodies allow usually 6 months into the next year (2026 for example) for everyone to be in compliance.

Anybody that's been getting helmets every 5 years knows that the first year, supply is EXTREMELY limited and spotty. Bell for example didn't have any M8 helmets until late 2021 and really didn't catch up until sometime in 2022.

Here's a post I made about the 2020 helmets on our website. Assume similar for 2025.

But wouldn’t Covid have something to do with the 2020 models being in short supply? I’m imagining a more robust supply chain now.

Read my blog post. Timing is dictated by SNELL, not supply chain.
Availability is another matter. Bell had a similar issue in 2015 so there's that.

just in case anyone did not know.... PCA rules, at least for DE, allow FIA rated helmets as well. my club had always said it was SNELL or nothing and then one day i actually read the rules.

Bell's issue in 2015 was related to moving production I believe . . . .
