I think every young person should have to serve on an HOA to learn how dysfunction works.
Or to show them how it's supposed to work. I've done three stints on our HOA board in the past 17 years. I never saw any disfunction and the only time we had an unhappy resident was when one was repremanded for topping off the neighbor's trees to improve their view.

It speaks to the maturity and restraint with which people exercise their power. Most people don't do so well with power and their inner insecurities makes them behave boorishly.

Indeed, when committee members attack some irrelevant issue like a wild boar, their boorish behavior quickly bores me....
