It is a sad commentary when the PCA club race at an awesome track like VIR has problems getting enough people.

After suffering in the heat of the summer, it's moved to a spring date and still... Disappointing.

It's a remarkable track. A continual challenge, and a fun one at that!

Other events aren't suffering. And there's a waiting list.

Indeed.

I just realized I agreed with you wholeheartedly for the first time... ever.

Joking aside, VIR is simply one of the best tracks in North America.

How is the overall car count looking? Is this just a vintage issue, or is the race as whole light v this same point last year?

I'm pretty sure we previously agreed that Luxardo makes the best cherries for a cocktail.

Late to the party, but can I bring a Ferrari? I'm getting checked out for black at The Glen at the May PCA event - trying to squeeze this one in if possible.

I've run VIR a number of times, one of my favorites!

Where do I register?

VIR CR Chair here..... Last time a checked a couple of days ago the count was 71. We had 133 last year which is a "typical" number for VIR. The move to March from June has made many people happier with the weather but the car counts are about the same. In the past 10 or 12 years, the lowest count was about 115 and the highest 145. I know other races are struggling with numbers too but mostly at the smaller tracks. Club Racing is a lousy business to be in with slim margins. We do it for the passion!

And you and your crew do a great job!

C’mon, people! Support this event, please.

The VIR Club Race and Advanced HPDE is one month away! The numbers are still down and we haven't reached a break even point yet. I know COTA is this weekend and expecting our numbers to pick up next week,

Three days on the VIR full course, two sprints/run group on SAT and two Enduros on SUN (ending mid-day to get you on the road). The DE group will get about 7 hours of track time including about 3 hours on SUN PM after the enduros.

We hope to see you at VIR on 22-24MAR!

I am trying to get in the DE group - but the car situation is bleak.

A stock 23 WRX that I develop for KNS Brakes. A stock 18 Camaro SS 1LE, de-modded and meant to be sold, and my SpecCorvette which won't be ready.

One issue I see is the closeness of the Road Atlanta and now COTA races. While the June heat was not fun, at least there wasn't a lot of competition at the time (before WGI date moved). Now there is and I think people are having to pick one over the other. Sadly I'm in that camp and I'm doing Road Atlanta this year.

But they are. Sebring was WAY down this year (the only PCA race held so far).
I can tell you from our business and talking to people that the cost of racing is getting out of hand, so I see a lot of people cutting back. Registration fees are up, tire costs have skyrocketed, fuel costs, other at-track fees (especially VIR) are all adding up to making a weekend 50% or higher more expensive than just a few years ago.
I know it's only 2 months in, but our sales are down by 25% over last year already. All our manufactures are starting to badger us about taking more inventory because it's not selling and sitting in their warehouses.
I want to think positive but the numbers are not looking good for 2024.
