Default How many threads on a lug nut?

Carrying on about windows up or down, I figured this would be another good discussion starter

How many threads do you need engaged for a safe joint? F1 teams say two to hold a wheel on.

That is a very complex question. The correct answer is that it depends if the windows are up or down, what type of lap timer is being used, whether you have track insurance and of course, most importantly, the oil type and blinker fluid come into play.

Clearly, it is at least 1/2 a thread more than these

G - part of your response is incorrect. If the car has factory equipped LED lights, it does not require blinker fluid...

So, would LED lights be improved if they did have blinker fluid? 😀

If you have a Boxster depends on whether the top is up (PCA rules) or down (NASA rules).

No way to answer. They are not equipped with blinker fluid systems. It is best explained here.

Funny how they still seem to strip or bind up those two threads.

You want the minimum to be the thickness of the bolt or stud. So if you have a stud that is 14x 1.5 pitch the diameter is 14mm and a 1.5 pitch each turn is 1.5mm.....14/1.5= 9.3 turns A 12 x 1,5 stud you want 8 turns minimum. That's how I learned it and I'm sticking to it.

Yes. More proof that no matter how much money is poured into something, it can still be screwed up
