Wow.. that's pretty cool, had not heard of that feature... not sure my old right foot could stay down though...

So it also Rev matches the downshift too (no more re heel-toe)???

Had no idea this car had that. Do any other models in the Porsche line up have this?

lol welcome to 2018 fellas. No lift shift is awesome, use all of the time on track, can't resist. Engine cut and "crack" into the next gear is particularly addictive, sound dynamic that can't be matched with a standard, fast upshift.

also use sometimes on the street when I'm being lazy.

Back to the original post, reason I said not a technique issue is that if anything the feature protects against a poor, jerky upshift that would unsettle the back end. Whether foot to the floor or at 15% throttle.

My 991.2 6MT GT3 rev matches in sport mode. No more heel toe ever. Love the feature.
On the upshifts, I always still lift off the throttle and go down on the clutch. Always.
Does this mean I can stay flat on the throttle while upshifting?

Yes. Whether sport mode is engaged or not. Try it at partial throttle and see what you think, progress to flat (foot to floor) upshifts. it's a blast and, crucially, gains lap time vs. conventional upshift as well

Edit: To make sure we're all on same pg, clutch in per usual, but throttle foot doesn't have to move.

Driving technique question from a noob here. This is in regards to my 992 GT3 Touring.

For background I've been driving manuals since I was a teenager (even took my driver's test in one) in various RWD cars; 93 RX7, 96 Silvia, and 2011 350z.

As I was driving my GT3 (manual) today, I flat-shifted into 2nd gear around 6-7000 RPM, and felt the backend fishtailing a bit. Luckily ESC was on as there were a few cars further back behind me and I maintained control of the vehicle, but still, it was a scary moment.

Road conditions were dry, car was warm, and stock tires still have about 40-50% tread left. Car was in Sport mode, with sport suspension enabled. Road was well paved and smooth.

I wonder if I was pressing the throttle too hard into the upshift? Could this be an issue with the car or is it just a technique problem? I'm thinking the latter, but hard to know what it was exactly. Makes me want to baby it when shifting into 2nd moving forward.

Appreciate your thoughts in advance. Thanks
As someone who also enjoys driving Corvettes… welcome to Z06 life =)

I will try it at Sebring on Wednesday. Should be a hoot.

20,000 track miles on it and I never knew about that.

Exit of T7 through Fangio is my favorite flat upshifting turf in the world. 2nd through 4th. Shout out to 2nd to 3rd flat (short) upshift shooting out of T10 while we're at it.

Gonna ease into it. As I tell my students, let’s peel back the layers of the onion….

Yeah good call. I had a buddy who would not try it, decades driving conventional manual, just didn't compute. He was convinced that he was going to smoke my clutch. I insisted, he started with no lift at like 10% maintained throttle and gained confidence in the tech from there. Still to this day I always do the first one for the day with a bit of reticence, but never fails.

Also would note that you can upshift at conventional speed with the maintained, no lift throttle. You don't need to complete the upshift faster. But after you gain confidence it's fun to progress the speed of the upshifts.
