Default Were you doing track driving in 2000?

I'm cleaning my office and came across this list from a DE back in 2000. I recognize probably 50-60% of them and still see them at DE's or Races. I guess these are the lifers or hard-core to be still doing it 20+ years later.

Not quite, did my first PCA DE in probably 2004.

It was a horror show (I had an OK time, but I'm sure my instructor was left scratching his head).

Time flies, now I ride right seat and see the same quality droving. But in fairness and to be honest, I was worse!

Cheers

Matt

I did my first PCA DE in 1998. It's hard to believe it was 25 years ago!

That sheet is fun - some good friends who's kids are now doing events, running race teams, etc.

I started in 1999.. Met Cris a few years after that racing 944 Cup...

Looking at the entry list, I can only imagine the hilarity of Dan Petchel instructing Pete D!!

My first PCA DE was in 1999 in an 82 911SC. They I did hardly any until 2013 when I started again and entered the rabbit hole.

1997, Timetrialing with the GGR. First with a 944, then a 951.
Took several years off to race with BMWCCA, then spent a few more resuscitating the 951.
Finally got to run it with them again last summer!

Didn't get with PCA until late. Started with FCA in 1985. More an organized track day with a lot of one-on-one mentoring back then. Then, onto TrackTime, subsequently purchased by Bobby Rahal in 1987-88.

The real fun was a regular gathering of Potomac/Schattenbaum/Riesentoter/Blue Ridge PCA instructors for a for-profit called Car Guys, Inc. put together by Kenley Smith, that rocked between 1989-1998.

A couple names on this list were stalwarts with that group. Dan Dazzo, Tom Bobbitt, Miriam Schottland and a few others.

Always fun to find these treasures buried in boxes. So many good memories. Thanks to the OP!

Best part is 2010 SCCA National Champion Matt DiRenzo in the green group! Great engineer, great guy, great driver. Brought into it by his instructor father!

Funny you'd mention 'Bobby Rahal's Track Time'!
Got my first taste of the HPDE thing at one he hosted at Laguna.
It was shortly after the season wrapped up, and he held the classroom sessions himself. He's a pretty funny guy!
TC Kline was there testing a Firehawk BMW, and Rahal gave everyone who wanted it a few laps around. Spectacular ability...
On-track instructors were volunteers, supervised by Shane Lewis. Maybe still racing Trans Am?
I did those once/year before starting with PCA.
Damn you, Bobby Rahal....

2000? Maybe the Bridge. That was the start down the slippery slope for me.

Miriam was my instructor for an event or two with Potomac. And I bought my 73 911 RS Clone that I was driving at that event from Dan.

Matt and his Dad Bob was at my DE event this fall. I got a chance to sit down and chat with them a bit.

Good times!

First PCA DE in 1992, first PCA Club Race in '99. Have seen a lot of turnover in the local region in that timeframe, just a handful of people still around from when I started.

I'd been at it for a decade by 2000. More than two decades if you count autocrossing... Trying to grow old without growing up!

I started DEs in 2014, but my track experience goes back to racing karts starting in the late 70's.

Shane hasn't been in Trans Am in a number of years. He did some off road and has recently been racing in the middle east and Germany. He just won the 12 hrs of Kuwait. Shane is a fantastic guy.
