Max tire width on a 944?
Anybody know if a Hoosier P275/45ZR-16 will fit underneath a 944 rear quarter without rolling the sheetmetal? I have 9 inch D90s but am concerned about clearance.

I'm not sure about the early cars, but I know that you should be OK with a late car. The tire will fit, although I don't know about offest with your wheel. I am running 9" wide 17" Cup wheels with 275/17 tires, and they fir just fine. I'd like to go to 285/18's at some point and I know that those will fit, too - as long as I get wheels with the right offset.

Unless you have a 951, that's almost too much rubber in the back for a 944 n/a.
I run 245-45/16's at all four corners no the track and find that combo to be very rewarding!

I run 17X9 996 wheels in the rear with 255 tires and they fit fine. 275 should be ok. Check out this post where somebody did exactly what you are talking about. https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ight=wheel+315

DB944,
I think it would, but don't go hogwild with tire width. Sometimes it is counterproductive. For years I ran 245-45-16's on 8's and 7's, then went to 15's and ran 245-50-15 (Exact same size as the 245-45-16's) on 7's. The tire guy ran out of the 245-50-15's, but he had 225-50-16's (Narrower than either the 245-45-16's or 245-50-15') So I put them on my 16x7's and actually went faster. Wierd, but it happens. Now I run 225-45-15's. Those tires lower my final gear ratio, because they are real small in diameter. Now I can use 5th gear and it actually pulls. If you have a turbo, that probably ain't a problem for you.
