Garage 56- Le Mans
#47
Any updates on Garage 56? Now I'm paying to view (with ads) via fuboTV. No clue what's going on with the GT cars via the global feed.
29th overall?
Glickenhaus Channel in car is pretty sweet:

Friend just texted me. JJ was "frightened of racing at night in the rain". G56 up to 27th. There's been so many cautions that the safety car had to change tires. Don't know if that was a joke or not, but wouldn't surprise me.

I have watched Le Mans for more years than I care to count and I can never remember such a complete and total lack of coverage for the GT cars. I like watching the prototypes, and understand that they are leading the race, but there is almost zero coverage of any car but the top ten, except when someone crashes.
Horrible coverage.
Horrible coverage.
Enjoy GTP/Hypercar as much as anyone, but they appear to be afraid to cover anything else.
lol, except for this damaged GTE AM Aston right now

Motor Trend channel on DirecTV only covered the front runners\Hyper class. It was disappointing because the other races were barely mentioned. In the final 10 minutes they showed the inside of the Garage 56 car because one of the leading cars passed it. I’m not into NASCAR but thought it was a great project and excited they finished.

Motortrend+ gave options to ride along in all Hypercars and several GTE cars including the 33 Corvette and the 24 Camaro, but no commentary only live sound feed for the in-car channels. Watching Jenson Button carve it up was sublime. I signed up for 1 month for $4.99 just to have the option to see all 24 hours and live scoring/timing, track map, and in-car cameras in addition to live feed with commentary including the live Eurosport feed if that was preferred.

Was cool seeing the Camaro finish the race. Way too much focus on the Hypercars and needed more GT coverage. Though they did talk a lot about Ben Keating mixing it up with the Bronze driver in the Iron Dames 911. But props to MT TV for showing the entire race and not breaking away like NBCSN did when they broke away to show ice skating one year.

For the first twelve hours though, I was really irritated and disappointed by the elderly Jim Roller's inane utterings. Too many references to the SCCA RunOffs at Road Atlanta (hasn't been a thing since 1993), reading off the timing feed and just no historic features or current features at all.
Got so bad, I turned the audio off and listened to Radio LeMans while watching MotorTrend+
What an awesome race!

So was there an ultimate/larger goal for this exercise? Allow a NASCAR class? A new NASCAR car design to use in their own league?
Despite what they say - the car was substantially altered (built from the get go different) if I am not wrong. Transmission and engine shifted locations. Totally different aero.
Too bad for the drive shaft failure (?) . Still an amazing performance.

I enjoyed the world feed plus in-car and always enjoy Guy Smith (commentator who won overall in the Bentley in 2003). Loved the closing two hours of the race commentary when someone else knowledgeable joined him, too.

As for the larger goal, I think marketing for Chevy and NASCAR was the main objective. From the organizer side it likely drew a bigger American audience. Chevy announced a limited edition Garage 56 Camaro model. Could be some good R&D for future NASCAR design iterations, especially if they do more road and street courses. This would have been a cool project to work on.
