Most GP1 teams saw best lap times 3-4 seconds faster than last year. Granted, in a close series like GP1 which leaves lots of room for changes, cars are never the same year over year.
I think ~2 seconds is about what the actual track improvement is worth though. Here is my best lap from Saturday 5/13.

I was hoping for another lap to see if you passed that Cayman...

Sorry to disappoint! I'm pretty sure the clubsport upped his pace, I don't recall passing him. For me, that's a big part of what makes multiclass racing so much fun, figuring out how to pick off faster classed cars that are holding you up.

Nice lap though. Early throttle everywhere.

Was driving an NP01 last weekend at RA with WRL.... I thought the surface lacked a bit of grip compared to the old one (to be expected) but was so smooth! I couldn't feel that little depression in the carousel that was there before and some of the transitions to the curbs were a bit abrupt... But otherwise I thought it was really nice...

Anyone who has driven RA after the repave have any visibility as to how the lower friction surface will affect cold and hot tire pressures? Thanks

Just asked our crew chief, and he said there were not any significant differences compared to prior the repave.

We found we required more pressure, especially in the LF, ended up going ~+2 psi vs last year. The surface is so smooth and there was such little tire wear also. Most teams that did tire changes (which was an absolute requirement last year) and consensus even on high deg tires was they looked like new.

E36 BMW #199 with Big Mission Motorsports. I think the only E36 in the field. Team brought 4 cars. We were the only one that wasn't broken all weekend, it was a rough weekend for the crew. We did DNF on Saturday after 6 hours due to a transmission leak, but were able to run all Sunday w/ a P5 finish. That's me on the far left w/ the green cap. This was my first WRL race...I was happy to just finish having not wadded up the car for my teammates. I did 90 minutes on Saturday before the car broke, and drove a double stint on Sunday for 2.5 hours which was a new experience coming from sprint racing.

That's what we like to see!

Still, no one broke 1:40 this weekend so the overall track record is safe, with Dario doing a 1:39.866 in qualy in 2000. A few folks in the 1:40's in Fast Six this weekend, Herta, O'Ward and Palou below 1:40.5

Zanardi did 1:41.874 fast lap in the race twenty-five years ago in a Reynard 98i, whereas Will Power had fastest lap in the race today at a 1:42.8921
