Question Racing dashboard?

I'm in the process of yanking the dash in my 951 (which looks horrible)
At this point I'm definately not putting it back in.
What are my options in term of racing dash's?
I know GT-racing makes a 944 dash, but its a bit expensive for my taste.

I see a lot of people at the track with what looks like wood and carpeting as a dash.
I like this idea, but is it really that easy? Do people just make their own?

My priorities are:
1) cheap - I also want to fit the old instrument panel in it so I don't have to buy all new gauges yet.
2) easy to work on
3) looks .... acceptable

I would also say lightweight, but pretty much anything is lighter than the stock dash.
I'm having a hard time finding *any* info.

Dirk, in some racing series, the dash must be retained although you can cut it up to allow for roll cage fitting. Just might want to check first to make sure you aren't doing something that you'll have to undo later.

No, its not a concern of mine.
With this car my attitude has been to setup the car like I want it without regards to the rules and regulations, and then just run in whatever group they put me in.
I guess if they wouldnt allow me to run at all that might be a problem, but this is just a DE car, and I don't know of any DE's that are that concerned. Hmm... I'll look into it. Thanks.

Wood and carpet on a track car????

If the GT-Racing unit is too expensive, just have a sheet of aluminum bent up and use that.

?????????????

A Hundred-and-Eighty bucks is too expensive? You're in the wrong game! Buy the GT dash. Unless you are a good fabricator, it will be money well spent

John,

Wow that looks awesome!
Got any more pics of your interior.

180?! I thought it was 330.

edit: Ohhhh.. The CF one is 330, but the fiberglass one is only 180! Thanks John!

Very Funny! You obviously have not seen my car! That picture shows about everything there is visually interesting to look at!
