In the back of my mind, I am wondering if perhaps there were hybrids or EV's on board, and if one of their battery packs started the fire. As has happened in airplanes.

I'm sure Porsche had them insured, so they will be whole and make out better - the warranty repair costs is zero! Sucks to have a car on that boat though. I'm sure there are a bunch of (soon to be) owners who lost their dream car.

980 Porsches.. very sad.

There’s a New Hampshire owner I know of who’s lost his ladies new car.

From another post: “There were 3 GT3’s headed to Greenwich on it. 7 cars to Norwell, 18 to Nashua”

The crew are all ok. There are plenty of things that can go wrong on a ship, like the Navy ship that burned to the hull sitting in port in San Diego a year or two ago. I work at the US Merchant Marine Academy so have learned a thing or two about shipping.

The fire in the Navy ship at port in San Diego was caused by arson. The ship didn't just catch fire on its own

Caught the slimeball and convicted him I believe, a disgruntled loser, won't call him a sailor as sailors dont burn their ships.

Ex-sailor

Latest article in Road & Track online confirms there are a significant number of Bentley and Audi EV's onboard and burning. Sounds like the cargo will be a complete loss. Now the question is whether the entire 650 foot ship is also scrap due to structural damage caused by the high temperatures.
