What a Champion! Been battling and winning against cancer for seventeen years. I saw him race in the Pro Am at the Indy SVRA historic races in 2018. Marvelous man.

I got to see him driver a Can Am car, practicing at Watkins Glen the day after my parents were driving at a DE, probably around 1980. Man were those things were fast. Saw Al at Savards having breakfast before heading up to the track, and I think we talked to him briefly.

I had the pleasure of meeting Al at the Unser Museum in Albuquerque about 8 years ago. It was a mid week day for our visit, and the museum was fairly quiet. As my wife and I were wandering through the museum, an older gentleman walked over and introduced himself simply as Al. He guided us through the museum giving insight and commentary, without any airs and graces. It was a pleasure to meet and talk with him. A true legend of the sport.

I don't know how many times I've driven by the Unser Blvd exit on I-40 when driving between Iowa and AZ- always wanted to stop at the museum but was always in a hurry to get home... my mistake.
What a family, and what a contrast between brothers! Sadly it's been a bad year for the Unser clan.
(on a related note, Jr.'s book, "A checkered past" is worth the read. Followed his career from the days he looked like a 12 year old running the last of the Can-Am cars at Road America. Hope he handles this loss ok...)

Anybody remember this car: https://www.museumofamericanspeed.co...ngspecial.html and the corresponding small die-casts that were competitors to Hot Wheels? I was a big Al Unser fan as a little kid in the late 60's and 70's. RIP
