Default Pastrana on Mt. Washington

I wasn't able to make the event this year, but Travis Pastrana made it and smashed his old record up the auto road. He drive up there is nuts. I can remember 25 years ago when the fastest top speed was a local who ran an asphalt north east modified up the mountain and was about 102 mph. It looked like Pastrana hit 140!

Crazy video and his mid course thumbs up

That road makes Pikes Peak look like an interstate highway... BTW, does he have a death wish?? If he missed one of those turns up towards the top he'd still be rolling down the cliff!! And I thought PP looked scary!!

Every time he went into a corner where a foot beyond the apex was a 2000 ft. drop with no guard rail, all I could think about was "what if he has a mechanical right there?".

I've taken chances before, but if I ever take chances like those, just shoot me before I even pit out....

I am astounded that is actually a public road. It should be renamed the Darwin Highway

At reasonable speeds, it really isn't bad to drive up. Yes, there are drops, but no different than you find in CA or Europe. And while it is a "public" road, it's a pretty steep toll and there aren't that may cars on it. I've done a few spirited drives up, one of the best in a '95 GTI.

They also do a run up the auto road and a bicycle race. I've hiked the mountain before and back in the day, my FIL would run up Tuckerman's Ravine, tag the summit sign, and run back down in 2 hrs 38 min!

Pastrana is a machine, amazing drive up the mountain. I drove my Boxster up to the summit in 2016 when up at Jay Peak for the Porsche Parade, at a much slower pace. My girlfriend had to be helped from the car due to the fear of the drop-offs. It's really narrow in places, no two-way traffic possible.

A couple of pics from the summit that day:

Really narrow and very uneven pavement. Pikes Peak is child's play in comparison. Pastrana is a serious talent.

And a very cool guy. He always talks to fans during the New England Forest Rally, even as he’s jumping in the car. Love to have car control like that!

Saw this the other day. Truly amazing talent. His transition from motocross/X-Games events to rally cars has been phenomenal. Also noticed and loved the casual thumbs up midway through the run.

Absolutely insane by both Travis and Bill Washburn (the 240 Maxi video above). I thought Travis' video was sped up the first two times I watched it, but then I watched Bill's and, nope, that's realtime speed. Bill crashed out on his last run with a mechanical failure; thank god it was at the bottom of the hill and not up top!
