Default Where is PCA Racing Headed?

Hey guys. Getting the track bug again (as if you ever lose it). Got to get my left shoulder repaired, but looking at next season. Looking at a spec series possibly, which I've always enjoyed. Looks like SPB has held up well. What about other classes? And, no more Daytona?

-Is there an up and coming spec class that will dominate, or is Box/Cayman the way to go?
-Will they add back any of the old tracks? RRR or Daytona?

I miss the fun and the friends.

SPB has been growing. SPC has been very slow to get some critical mass. SP3 is fairly steady and depending on the region SP1 and SP2 are still popular due to the attractive cost. Vintage is also growing slowly with dedicated race groups. Daytona is scheduled for Oct 22 - 24 this year. It's hard for regions to take the financial risk on tracks like COTA and Daytona.

I think SPC is a great balance between cost and performance, some of the best value in PCA club racing. Relatively modern cars, so not as maintenance intensive as SPB and for sure SP and vintage, quick and the drivers at the front are quick. Just my .02

What about PCA vintage racing? How does it compare to SVRA? Does the PCA recognize a SVRA Super License for vintage or club racing? Are there good vintage fields and good racing? I’m always on the lookout for a fun place to race my 1974 RSR and challenge its vintage driver.

911Cup car counts are on the up swing on the E. Coast - there's all the appeal (and require skill) to race an old 911, with way more parity than any "vintage" class. We have ten racers at NJMP - the 2nd largest class - and I think it's a toss up between half the class on who ends up on the top of the podium ...

For reference, 911CUP is open to any D, E or F Stock legal 911 (with some options for weight loss). Right now, the fast cars are Euro 3.0 and 3.2 SCs (E Stock).

PCA racing requires you to be a pca member and have a PCA license. You can get a temporary/rookie license if you have other racing license.

The fields are pretty good but the rules are lax (wings or no wings and over or under 2.5L) so it's just for fun.

It’s different, for sure. For the most part, SVRA is a lot stricter for the older cars. I would say I’ve seen some very, very good racing with 2.5/2.8 liter cars at SVRA and with 3.0 liter cars in HSR. I think you’d run GT-4 in PCA Club Racing. Or, you could run in the vintage group, if the PCA event has the group scheduled there.

There are more than thirty-five vintage racing organizations throughout the country, many with different tire rules and prep levels. I’d recommend picking some of the blue ribbon events and go to them. The Classic 24 at Daytona, the Sebring Classic the month after, Monterey last weekend and this coming weekend, Road Atlanta in April, Lime Rock on Labor Day, Road America in July. All good choices.

You are rocking it Hef! Wished I would have picked up your old GTB1 car. I'm sure it was pristine.

I visited my old Cayman yesterday at Speedsport and she was as beautiful as ever! If I ever win powerball I will try to buy back the two race cars I sold.

That being said, the Cup car sort of helped me over the pain of losing them!

Been looking around a bit. I think Peter's option would be best for me. Can do an occasional race PCA in my area and DE with my teenager. (what is the rule with P Club, 15 or 16?)

Anyway, if you know someone with a nice SPC build, please send them my way. In no hurry. Thought about building one, but will probably pay double for that.

The cool thing about SPC to me is that it would be a great car to do EXACTLY what you want to do with it and still be quick enough to keep your interest high. Good luck!

PM me your email address if you want to get on the SPC email list. It is pretty active and I believe there are one or two people looking to sell their SPC.

Although I no longer drive an SPC there are enough emails about booze, hookers and blow to keep me interested so I am still a "contributor".
