Still can't believe Haas is still in F1... wonder if Gene will ever show his face in the paddock or pits this year. As many have predicted, I bet 'spin's dad owns the team by next year. I really want to cheer for an American F1 team and still have my Rich Energy Haas shirt but I'm too embarrassed to wear it.

On a related subject, I'm glad to see Romain get his run in the Merc at the French GP weekend. I know he has his detractors, but I like the guy (and his wife could be in the IHI thread) and hope he does well in indycar.

The only bright side with Mazepin is if his dad's money helps Haas build a better car next year.

I'm pretty sure that is accurate. The fitness required to drive these cars would kill me! Just wondering where a "$hitty F1 driver" stacks up in the pecking order.

Sadly, one way or another I think HAAS F1 is gone at the end of the year.

+1 on the comments about Grosjean (and his wife)! Coming back from that accident shows that he has a lot more in him than people gave him credit for.

I agree. I have a hard time believing Gene Haas is interested in footing the bill and taking the risks tied to developing and improving an all new platform for the 2022 season... Wouldn't be surprised if the team changes hands mid-season in 2021. This said, i hope it remains a US owned team and doesn't become a toy-thing for a Russian potash fertilizers company.

The Captain is going to busy running the sports cars.... and in a related story, the Captain donned a racing suit and helmet and did some laps in the RS Spyder!!!!! https://racer.com/2021/05/12/penske-...che-rs-spyder/

Hope I have that much energy in 10 years!!

He is to smart to get involved in F1. People who get involved seem to be driven more by ego than the dollars and sense (all puns intended).

I bring him up tongue-in-cheek as he is probably the only American connected with racing remotely moneyed enough to pull it off.

As an aside, I can't believe after all these years that there are, nor have been, any American drivers in F1 since 2006. Seems we've gotta be able to do better than Mike Andretti and Scott Speed. Hope Colton Herta has a good test and breaks the string (too bad HE doesn't drive for Penske!).

And he (Rossi) came to indycar as a total afterthought, and then won Indy as a rookie. At first I thought he was a horrible interview and wasn't impressed but the last year or so I have done a complete 180. Love it now when they stick a mic in his face- it will usually be very entertaining...
Impressed with Herta- my wife and sat behind he and his dad flying out of Des Moines after the last race at Iowa Speedway. Chatted with he and his dad for a couple minutes. My wife, who is not a "race fan" but obviously overhears me all the time, was very impressed with him. Said "what a polite young man." I told him I was just glad to see him in one piece after he had gone "flying" the night before!!
