There was that issue, but I think split starts, or lack of the, also became an issue.

Split starts are great at tracks 2 mile +, anything smaller (Limerock for example) just ruins both races IMO..

 

I have not participated in a split start on a track under 2 miles. I don't understand the resistance to split starts in general. I have been in races with NASA that had 3 splits in one race!

It's really not that hard.

But with 44cup gone the split start agreement goes with it.

Nope, it's a good thing IF there is time for the race to settle down before one group is on top of the next. At Limerock the second group can see the tail of the 1st group (or even be on top of it) when the green drops. A ~60 second lap time just doesn't work well with two groups, much better to simply stage by lap times regardless of group. I was reminded that one year they waved off Group #1 and Green Flagged Group #2, I can only imagine what a cluster-fart that was!

PCA has fought split starts vigorously. The only reason we had them was because 44cup hammered out a deal if they had 18 cars (used to be 15) they could have a split start.

PCA now has an opportunity to do away with it. I will be the most surprised guy in the paddock if they don't seize this opportunity

 

Let me get thus straight: PCA, which is actually sexist in real life in my experience, is worrIed about pics...got it.
Split starts, there should be more not less, but PCA prefers it all be presentation laps, not class based.
