Cool Shirt Pump question
For the off season I’m servicing/upgrading my cooling stuff and had a question about pumps. I just bought the Coolshirt Black Comet pump which appears to be the replacement pump that sits in the Coolshirt System ice box. When I went to look at swapping them out, the original pump is a 360 GPH bilge pump. I initially was trying to see if the Black Comet had the same GPH (couldn’t figure that out) but ended up finding a 500 GPH/12V (same manufacturer). Would there be an advantage to having a 500GPH vs a 360GPH? I can’t begin to describe how hot I get when I’m driving so it’s why I’m looking into this. I run a hooded Coolshirt and the helmet blower piping thru the same box. I’d happily get the 500GPH and hold onto the Comet as an emergency replacement. Any insight appreciated. Thanks.

Just my uneducated opinion... Let's see what the smart people have to say.

Agree, With those gph ratings, you won't see a huge difference.
but surface area on ice is a big deal
if you want colder Temps, crushed ice.
ice if you want longer cooling, not quite as cold, block of ice
I still don't understand why no shirt cover the armpit with all the heat you get there.
Check out a vented seats, drove a car with one and was amazed

I swapped mine to a $35.00 dollar Rule 500GPH marine bilge pump and it works fine, can't remember what the first one was but it's the one
that came with the Cool Shirt kit, possibly same as yours ?
Cheers

It must be what the older Coolshirt Systems came with because mine is Rule marine bilge pump as well but it’s 360GPH. Jeff makes a good point, I’m sure there has to be some consideration to how fast you can pump water thru the small piping that the shirt uses. It’s good to at least know that the 500GPH pump works though.

While you may not see an improvement in flow rate the overall pressure of the system will definitely go up, roughly 35 to 40%. This shouldn’t be a big deal but if you have a connector that was leaking a little with the old pump it’s going to leak more with the new pump.

You may want to consider the upgrade to a Chillout iceless system. Have been using them for the last year and they are amazing. Never runs out! They also claim that you don’t want things to get too cold like the ice systems do as then your capillaries close and you heat up more. All I know is it seems to work really well.
