I now have permission to buy a dedicated track car and I am in the market for a 981 GT4 Clubsport. If anyone has a good lead for a car that is excellent shape, please let me know.

Still think the ClubSport is the sweet spot for track day cars. 981 or 718. Sure would make sure to run race rubber on it.

You can buy a 2016 Cup for around 120k now? And how many hours does that Cup have on the Engine/Tranny....before it needs its 50k+ rebuild. CS aren't overpriced at all when you consider just maint let alone anything else.

for 120k, you can get a low hour 981CS. And an entire factory replacement engine is less than the price to rebuild a 991 cup! Plus the brakes last forever with the lower hp/speed.

Yup thats why I went with a 981cs, probably the best deal in a Porsche Factory Race car there is...out side of maybe a 996 Cup.

The 718 is maybe a second or so faster if well set up and well driven. While significant at the pro level not a huge difference lower down the pyramid and frankly meaningless below the pro am level. A few tweaks to the 981 and it is still competitive below SRO .
In fact the 718 seems less competitive in class, unfortunately, than the 981 was when it was new.
The 991 Cup will always be faster but will also cost 4 to 5 k per hour all in and the CS , either one, is half that. The substantial lower operating cost of ownership of the CS makes it more valuable in the absolute sense as the cars work their way down the pyramid. That is why the Cups seem cheaper to buy but are not cheaper in the long run to the average club level racer or HPDE guy.
