Default Best phone mount for track days

Has anyone tried this mount for track days? https://store.windingroad.com/readya...iphone-android

Looking to mount my phone on my rear windshield to capture in car footage with Harry's Laptimer.

I've got one of these but not from Winding Road. It came as a freeby when I bought something from Apex. It's.....okay. It's bigger than you would think and getting it aimed correctly is not easy. The joints have serrations on them which take some adjusting to aim correctly. But, when locked down, the joints are solid and the 2 screws locking down the phone make for a solid grip. I just looked and Apex Performance has it for $10 less.

Thanks for the feedback. I wondering if its better than the GoPro suction mount even with its deficiencies.

Default Matt's Ipad mount

I am on my third iteration of mounts. I like recording via iphone and ipad as the info is so usable - high quality video, quick replay, and quick shares. My first mount was for an iphone 5 called Optrix - its a clear case, with a fish eye lens, and was attached to a SeaSucker mount. Seasucker is the bomb - it is super secure, I have even mounted it outside of the car. But Optrix is no longer in business but I still use it with my old iphone 5.

My latest is a windshield mount that I customized for an ipad in a Porsche. Start with this $20 mount:

, and then I add piece of metal to to slide in just above the PCM where it holds firmly with no vibration, and the camera is positioned just above the dashboard. The suction attachment to the windshield is sub par, but you can use the included clear double sided tape to hold properly (not easy in and out like the sea sucker). Note; for track day, I add a few rubber bands around the ipad for extra security. The ipad is the perfect race monitor as it gives you a large, easy to see screen for real time + or - relative track lap times, and super easy playback. Not bad for $20 and a trip to the hardware store!

Or, just buy this professional Seasucker ipad mount for $125

Can you specify the model of the RAM mount you bought? I'm worried about the phone slipping out of the mount in high G corners...

Won’t come out of this: TACKFORM Motorcycle Phone Mount -...
Amazon Amazon

Word to the wise: Ram suction cups wear/age out. My several years old one came undone, mount+phone flew into drivers footwell, meantime ripped out my center console trim from yanking the cord/usb lighter plug at 80 mph at the track.

Revisiting an old thread here...is the Ram mount still the preferred windshield mount for track days?

We sell a ton of the new and improved Apex phone mounts. its very secure, very strong on the windshield and the most stable as anything we've ever seen.
