Perhaps topped only by the inevitable paddock inquiry as to whether that things got a turbo.

East Street Racing, Racing Junk, Spec Miata Racers.com, Flatout Motorpsorts, OPM, Planet Miata etc etc.
No better platform to learn on, no cheaper track car, I'm 6'4" 220# and raced one for 5-6 years. Bolted the
seat to the floor. In a DE or similar venue, really need a few other Miatas to play with. The MX 5 is a more ( but not much )
expensive option, no roof, pop right it. As another has said, if you can be fast in a Miata you can be fast in anything.
Best bang for your buck, Mazda sells OEM parts cheap Craigs List is an endless source of body parts etc because
you'll need a few extra fenders, bumper covers, transmissions......you get the idea.
It's like the old joke" What do a Porsche and Spec Miata have in common, it's hard to do $10K in damage to either one"

This is my track-ride. Last year was first season running it. A lot of fun and challenging to find those final tenths. Incredibly reliable and parts are cheap and available on the shelf

Nice shots! I especially like the last one with the parts debris in the frame
Thanks to all that have contributed to this thread! I very much appreciate it. Also, hope I can reach out to you experienced guys on the project going forward...yup, I bit the bullet and brought a stray home yesterday! She has some cosmetic challenges, but mechanically sound and only 100,000 miles on it, almost zero rust. Let the games begin!

There are tons of stripped out and caged Miatas around for sale at every price point you can imagine. If you set fire to what you just bought and buy something already finished it will still be cheaper.

Its definitely cheaper to buy a built car—the hardtop alone is $1000–but you’re on your way. Have fun!
try to build it to sm or sm2 or other logbook class. It gives you many more options as you progress, and a larger audience when its time to sell.

I surprisingly haven't found the Miata community to be as active online as Porsche. There are several forums but much of the racing is focused on spec and there forums aren't very active in comparison. Miataturbo.net has one of the better racing/track sections and has good info in the "builds" page hidden in the Media section. In general the crowd is younger and a bit puerile at times. There is a Facebook miata race prep group I scan sometimes but i don't really do Facebook. I wouldn't worry too much about building a car vs buying, a lot of the Miatas for sale are roaches with crappy cage kits. I keep looking at the Honda k series swaps, similar power to weight as my old 911...
