Watkins Glen International Re-Opening When????
I am starting a "Watkins Glen International Re-Opening When" OP. The track has a major impact on the financial health of Watkins Glen and the surrounding towns.
Gov. Cuomo has said the Southern Tier, Watkins Glen being a town in the Southern Tier, can open to Phase 1 on May 15th.
The next milestone to support track events is Phase 3 when motels can open. The time frame for Phase 3 is 28 days from May 15.
If DE and auto racing is recreation, NYS classify that is Phase 4 or 42 days from May 15th, or close to the end of June.
Each phase has to be compliant with specific criteria for the Southern Tier to advance from one phase to the next phase, an unknown until actual data becomes available.
What is your take?

Unfortunately, sporting events might fall into the yet to be defined Phase 5 bucket.

Car racing is not a sporting event. It's a required, sanity keeping, necessity that needs to start happening now.

I'm at the point now when I go into headache phase just thinking about it.
So I just hope it's sooner rather than later.
As Yogi may have said: "When it opens, it's open".

On a good note.. Looking at the type of businesses that are being allowed to open in CT. on May 20th (retail, restaurants with outdoor seating, offices, hair salons etc) I can't imagine Lime Rock won't be able hold private non-spectator events. Actually I could imagine but I choose not to.

Anyone's guess at this point. I live in FL most of the year now and glad the lock-down has loosened a bit, allowing Sebring to open. I was hoping to attend DMTD's at the Glen in early June but not confident it's going to happen. At least Chin has Sebring on 5/30-31 to get my fix.

If you go to Home Depot or a garden store on the weekend the parking lots are crammed. There may be arrows on the floor, and six foot hash-marks at the registers, but everyone is crammed on top of everyone and half the people have masks not covering their nose.
This is all OK because gardening is "essential" and racing is not.
