Vettel off the Prancing Horse

So latest is Sainz to Ferrari but what is interesting is linking DR to McLaren.... Not sure that's his wisest move, if Norris wipes the floor with him that could be it for him in F1... That leaves open seat at Renault. Don't see Seb at Renault so this could very well be retirement time "UNLESS" he ends up in a pink Mercedes... Lawrence doesn't need Perez's money, he is signed through 2022 but Ocon only lost the seat over $$$ so is Perez going to be the one on the block and Seb in a Pink Mercedes??? Does Ocon ever get back to F1? Kvyat away from TR? Definitely more shuffling to come.
And that is the reason with Ferrari will pick Sainz.

And Sainz will be a clear #2 driver to Charles. Charles has race wins under his belt and proven speed. I think they feel Sainz will play the role of Rubens and Irvine much better than DR would.

Sounds like Ferrari picked Sainz over Ricciardo which I think is a mistake on several levels.
Who knows? I thought Leclerc should have stayed at Sauber another year to get more experience but I guess I was 100% wrong about that.

i would liked to have seen Daniel get the opportunity at Ferrari and i question the track record of Sainz as the clear option. seems to me they were viewing Sainz as a points gatherer (constructor's championship) and opted against a situation where DR might have put some pressure on LeClerc. i could be underestimating Sainz, but that's my guess.

I think Danny would really try to bulldoze Shar--he's all smiles out of the car but in it he's relentless. Don't think that's what the Scud is looking for right now, and when things don't go the way Shar wants them to he goes off. Hopefully that disappears with age, as it (kinda) did with Max. But also, like Max, his talent is undeniable.

I don't know, I just don't see it in Sainz and didn't see it when matched up against Verstappen when both where teammates at Toro Rosso.

Ferrari understands that Sainz is more likely to obey team orders without grumbling than Ricciardo. Ferrari gave LEC a 5 yr contract, he’s their guy/future and all their development effort will be focused on him. Sainz is capable (to gather points) but only time will tell if he’s amenable to being Bottas 2.0. I think for the chance of 1 or 2 wins per season and a decent chance at regular podium appearances on a Top 3 team, Sainz will play ball... Ricciardo would have been a much better fit for F1, the sport and the fans but not better for Ferrari’s plans (sadly we know how Ferrari’s plans turn out).

I think it would be interesting to see Vettel in the pink Mercedes. It's proven to be a decent car but always lacked a top tier driver. I agree GBuff that Sainz is a tough competitor, but the chance to drive the red car may have been enough for him to agree to play ball and be a points gatherer and collect a decent sized check. That said, I think he will be waiting for LeClerc to stumble and will capitalize if that happens.
