Default Driving with moderate wind

Hi all I was driving a newly bought and my first 911, precisely a 991.2 c4s
i was under moderate side wind but it felt unsafe to drive above 90-100 mph because u could feel some lift below the car.

is this normal? What is your experience driving with side wind?

Some issue with the tires, alignment, etcetera. These cars above that speed have no lift, or shouldn't.

Does it have PASM? Maybe it's trying to adjust to a side load?

Was it a push or a lift? Push with the wind is one thing, feeling like the car is lifting is another. Especially on the motorcycle you can actually have to adjust steering to counter wind proactively, we lean into it... What is difficult is when it is gusty opposed to constant wind. Strong gusts can absolutely catch you out...

Just keep in mind that they routinely drive these cars on the German Autobahn at speeds much faster than that so something might actually be wrong with your car but maybe it depends on your definition of "moderate".

You might try raising up on the other cheek, to see if the thrust on that side causes less instability, but I would definitely eat less beans to reduce the problem...

Very good answer. Cheek Corner Balance is very important. Power cooled seats can be a real problem with wind. Instant problem.
Somebody on this site makes special seat bolster covers. Maybe he can also make interchangeable seat cushions filled with activated carbon.

I was in a race at Mid Ohio for NASA nationals when the hurricane hit the track. while I knew it was windy I had no idea how bad until i exited the track. So, the wind was not that big of a deal in my 968 race car.

Hopefully all the shipping blocks were removed during new delivery prep?:

.....and since I notice you are relatively new here, some actual information as opposed to me making jokes:

My cars have been 2007 Cayman S, 2007 GT3, 2015 GT3, all tracked heavily. I have never had instability at any speed or wind condition, unless something was broken or out of adjustment. As noted, definitely check for the shipping blocks. Classically, these cars are sold with each wheel set to a totally random alignment, so get a good alignment. I had a front shock go out, so small bumps would set off a weird oscillation. If the car has the front lift, make sure that is working and not stuck in the "up" position.

Again, these cars have confidence inspiring stability. If it feels weird or unstable, something is wrong....

Moderate to severe wind is another reason to drive with windows down.

On the hopefully helpful side, it’s not normal at all for a modern Porsche to feel unstable at all at 100mph.

Exactly. Hahaha. Severe wind = windows down or press the window lock button (aka Sport mode).

Sport Plus: Puts the air system in recirculation mode
