Go to MotorsportReg.com to see most local events, registration and links. Recommend the one day High Performance Driving Clinic from PCA or equivalent before a full DE weekend. Potomac PCA requires the HPDC before a DE weekend. SCCA and NASA both have DE programs but don't know the first timer rules. Make sure they have loaner helmets. Don't buy a used helmet unless you know how to read the date code. An Auto Cross would be good first timer experience. PCA will hold a free Tech normally two weeks before an event. PCA Potomac requires a brake flush 90 days before the event (six months if racing brake fluid). Most other clubs require and annual brake flush. Download the tech forms. SCCA and NASA are DIY.

What awed me most was the camber you could see standing in the corners as opposed to driving through them. That track walk (I was in Blue solo at the time) made me faster and smoother from the next day forward. Thanks Matt.

I just came back to DE last year and did more SCDA events than PCA events. Your friend can also try Autocross right at the Moore Army Airfield at Devens. Autocross is a great introduction to high performance driving and loosing control of your car is part of it. Nothing to hit but a traffic cone or two. Explore you and your cars limits safely. From April to October some club or other is running there and very close to you. Go on up and take a look. Some clubs will even allow you to borrow a helmet and go for a ride along.

Another vote for SCDA as a beginner. They have very good instruction. SCDA and PCA have the best eye candy too. Move up to NASA when you get quicker and into the advanced levels. NASA is a little more hardcore than other clubs.

I've been driving with them for years and it's a great group. They start 4/12 at Mid-O (hope it's stopped snowing by then )
