From what I read this was a Region or Instructor failure (or both), not the 997.2 GTS and it's a shame it went the way it did.
You can add NNJR to that list.
When I first started in DE (couple hundred track days ago) in Green then Yellow, my NNJR instructor (whoever it was) would always make contact with me BEFORE the event and we'd talk and email about goals, expectations, limits, car preparedness, and safety.
Not only did it help put me at ease and calm my nervousness, it let me know that the instructor really cared about things like goals, limits, and safety.
To this day, I still think it's a great idea for instructor and student to talk well before any DE event if the student is fairly new to track driving. My $.02. YMMV....

I should have said "my experience as an Instructor with CT Valley and NY Metro".. Many regions do it, ALL should.

Agree 100%. It makes a BIG difference to the student. I gotta assume it makes the instructor feel more at ease as well. Glad you do it, and yes, all regions should. Agree 100%.

Mrs. GoBlue! and I just got back from Barber DE over the weekend. Missed have missed OP by a few days. Needless to say, we are booth hooked and looking at a May Masters class. Good advice in this thread.

Unless you are an ENT specialist I would consult with one just for the sake of checking the box as you say this is a new issue with you. I also used ginger capsules when I was younger and the first computer video games made me ill, but ginger can act as a blood thinner so it's use may not be a good idea for some.

The issue was your instructor letting you drive way over your head, not the car's fault for being powerful. I started in a 997S and had no such problems because my instructors spent time with me before and between groups setting limits and expectations, made me aware of fundamentals, track layout, flag station positions, etc. etc. A good instructor (in CT Valley and NY Metro anyway) will contact the student well before the event to create a dialog establishing where the student's level is, and what he is expected to know BEFORE he arrives at the track for the first time. lol-- yes, we do make the absolute worst patients, you're right. I actually had an episode of unprovoked vertigo years ago that lasted for months that I did see an ENT colleague for. No clear explanation, so all they can really do is tell you to treat the symptoms. I did find that doing vestibular exercises helped a lot. Motion sickness is a different animal and while it may be related to underlying inner ear dysfunction, there isn't much an ENT is going to do for you except tell you NOT to do the things that elicit it.

I agree with others that ginger can help a lot. I use it for a lot my cancer patients in addition to prescribed anti emetics such as zofran and phenergan.
Low dose dramamine didn't bother me too much -- the adrenaline kept me alert. Meclizine (anti vert) can also cause drowsiness as a FYI.

Moving on........... that is really interesting about what should have happened before my first experience. They didn't do ANY of that. I was literally handed off to an instructor who did one or two laps with me hanging on trying to keep from getting sick while listening to what she had to say and then implement it.
After doing the PTX school, I realize just how crappy that experience was. I had no such issues in any of the cars I drove at the Porsche school, and that too on a wet track during the first day.

The new upgrades w/r to tires, wheels, brakes, and chassis on the 2019 GT350 are supposed to close the gap a bit b/w it and the GT350R. Consequently, the base price went up by about $4k or so c/w to 2016-2018.

Can I ask-- why didn't you keep your R?? Especially if you got it at sticker........ I think it will be true collectors car one day.
I am not the original responder to this but I thought I would chime in. I have an "R" and love it and I am a track junkie as I am a member of our local facility. (I only use it on the track). However, do your homework. The engines are a bit delicate. There are plenty of threads out there on the oil consumption issue and blown engines in general. Mine did not have any consumption but threw a rod at the track - shot through the oil pan. Ford replaced it no questions asked and I got an extended warranty which is great. They are awesome track cars and as the other poster suggested - forgiving. I came from tracking a 997.1. My ultimate goal is a 991.1 GT3 or possibly a prepped Cayman. However, at this point no interest in a trailer, etc. I need to drive to the track and back. The R has a Watson roll bar and Schroth harnesses. Make sure you get Camber plates if serious about tracking a 350. Also, not so sure they will be collectors cars as they have produced quite a few of them but who knows. Have fun!

good stuff, thanks. Yeah, I've read the threads on the oil consumption (which I can live with if it happens), as well as the blown engines. I'm hoping (fingers crossed) that with each year, the issues continue to get better......... I ultimately don't care if it's a collectors car or not, but feel your R may very well be. Just wait until everyone is driving an electric car.........there will be a lot of people lusting after those retired flat plane crank V8 engines.

For me, it won't be an exclusive track car. It will more of a DD/fun car that may be occasionally tracked.

Makes sense. I also think Ford has done something to fix the issues but obviously not saying anything. You should be good to go. Enjoy and have fun!
