Default 3 Day VIR with PCA - Typical Cost?

I'm thinking about tracking my car again next year. Though I have more than 130 track days so far, I haven't been on track for a very long time. I was thinking about getting back into this earlier this year but with so much rain going on across much of the country it just didn't seam to make sense. Maybe 2019 will be drier.

So what does a PCA 3 day event at VIR cost these days?

$499, Zone 2 in March, all three-days. Great event.

There’s June, October and November, too.

I think all are three-day events, but some require the driver to be Solo cleared to participate the first of the three days.

Come on out!

My costs are around $1000-1200 per weekend.
That includes registration, accommodation, meals, gas, HPDE insurance.
It does not include tires/brakepads/other consumables, mechanical failures/track incidents, private coaching, garage/data equipment/transponder rentals etc.

^^This^^

Reg fees should run between $400 and $600 for a 3 day PCA event at VIR.
Seeing as you've done so many track days in the past, you already know that the reg fees are just the beginning.
I made the dumb mistake of actually adding everything up for a full season of 50 track days, which was this past season for me.
After adding everything together, registration fees, consumables, lodging, fuel at the track, fuel getting to the track, fuel getting home from the track, meals, beverages, parade laps for charity, track insurance, basically everything I could think of that I spent. etc., my numbers averaged out to about $1000/day on track. I also tow to the track, so that adds significant fuel expense, especially on a long distance tow like North Jersey to VIR.
I did add in the 5 sets of tires and the 5 sets of brake pads I went though, so if you're doing just 1 event, highly unlikely you'll be near that $1000/day number.
Good luck, and welcome back.....

A several hundred dollar variable can be if your car takes pump gas or race fuel. When I was driving SPC two years ago the pump gas saved me about $300 for a weekend.

$1k +/- $250. I can do 2 day events as an instructor and camping for $600 or so, not counting consumables and beer (which are cheap on 98X anyway).

Thanks for all the replies. I kept track of all the expenses on my last track car ('08 C2S). With insurance, car fuel, hotel, track fees, tires, rotors, pads, and towing fuel I was at about $900 per day. Really hard to justify the hobby on a lap-to-dollar level. I just try not to think about it.

Having taken some time off from the hobby, I've accumulated enough dollars to want to do it again. Still wish the weather was more cooperative though. I watched the weather last year for so many weekends at various tracks (WG, Pitt, VIR, SP, MO) and I feel like more than a third of those events were rained on. Of course, everything but the track fees would have be refundable but geez, $700 for a 3 day event down the drain because of rain is hard to accept.

Perhaps 2018's weather was an anomaly and not the new norm. Fingers crossed for a better year!

We were there last year for zone 2. We plan on making the trip again. We towed up from Orlando. My fiance drove the green group and I the blue. I try not to think of the cost....

One point I overlooked in my previous calculations:

As an instructor, my registration fee ranges from $0-300. So my weekends now cost less than they used to, unless I work w/ a personal coach.

When I was paying full fees plus trailering, the costs were closer to $1500+ per weekend.

Then there were times when I rented a tow rig: added on another $500-800.
Oh and the times when I flew to/from track were about $400 more.

Jeez. I guess this all sounds kinda crazy when I say it out loud.

I specifically don’t keep track of all the expenses like this because I’m fairly sure I’d stop doing it. In 2017 I replaced a motor, transmission, a bunch of other stuff, and drove something like 4 hours the whole season. That season cost me around $150 a minute.

I spun 2 bearings on my M3 in September. Had to replace crank and connecting rods plus other bits and pieces. I think I may still be ahead on cost though from mint I saved by NOT driving last 3 months.

04' GT3 MUCH less to run than old 79' 930. I'll leave it at that.

That's like $300+/lap at WGI or VIR. Sucks for you, but now I can tell my wife how much I am saving vs. others who have the same addiction.....

What’s up with having 3 or 4 threads going at the same time, all discussing how expensive this little pastime is...must be the off season and everyone is breaking rule #1 and adding up what they spent this season
