VIR with NNJR
Got home at 3 am this morning after 3 days at VIR with NNJR. Peter K, I looked for you, and asked for you, but I just couldn't seem to connect and finally meet you. Next season I'm sure.
Rained on Friday but I drove 3 of 4 half hour sessions anyway. If I didn't drive on Friday, my season would have ended yesterday at 49 days, so I drove in the "driving" rain and still had a great time (and made sure I got to 50 days yesterday).
Friday (in the rain) was a great day to refresh the line in my mind, and that's just what I did.
Saturday and Sunday were just stellar. Cool temps, no humidity, some nice sunshine, and some great people to run with in the White run group.
Not sure why I love VIR so much, but something about that track just does it for me. Kind of like how The Glen does it for me as well.
Thanks to NNJR for putting on such a great event again and letting me get to 50 days on track this season.
I took an instructor buddy out with me on Saturday morning and I finally (and consistently) stopped early apexing Oak Tree due to his advice while in my right seat. wait wait wait wait OK NOW TURN IN!!!!!! Thanks bud.
I was amazed how fast I was going at the end of the back straight because I wasn't ending up on the turtles in Oak Tree at the beginning of the back straight.
Anyway, I really love that track. Just wish it wasn't so far away, (9 hour tow for me).
I am flat out worthless today sitting in my office after 3 days on that track followed by that 9 hour drive home last night/this morning.
Regardless, I can't get this smile off my face.
While somewhat sad that my track season has come to an end, I have all winter to think about how great a season I had, how many new friends I made at various tracks, and how many old friends I got to see again and hang out with.
This track culture has really bitten me hard, and while I never expect to get another 50 day season, I know driving on track is something I will be doing for the rest of my life. In a couple years, my kids will be old enough to start doing DE's with me, and they can't wait. Neither can I.
Thanks again to all who contributed to one of the best summers of my life.
What a great way to end my season. VIR is amazing. If you've never been, get it on your bucket list. You won't regret it.
Until next season........

Congrats on what sounded like a great experience!
Sorry I missed you, but please touch base before you come down next.

Yeah, lucky I have an amazing wife and family who, for some reason, understand, and even support my track addiction. She’s the real reason I had the season I did. My little lucky charm.
Bringing her and the kids to a bunch of events each season doesn’t hurt either. Wife actually gets around 5 days/season on track as well. She doesn’t have the bug like I do, but she seems to like it.
Lucky indeed.

50 days! My, my -- you're really working for the NNJR's Enthusiast of the Year and Most Improved Driver awards all in one! I swear -- my CFP would drop me if I did 50 days!
Well done!

Glad the advice worked out Bruce. It's a common problem that many of the drivers I rode with where doing - Turning in early at Oak Tree.
Great weekend for me also. After missing the event the last two years for medical issue's, I was determined for that not to be the case again this year despite heading for more surgery in two weeks. So I took the wife's 991.1 GT3 and got to try it on the new 20 inch Hoosier's for the first time. I had a goal of going below 2 minutes and got a bunch of 1:59's ending up at a 1:59.48 late Sunday. Amazed that a street car with nice tires will go that fast there.

My best time was 2:14:42 but I was consistently between 2:15:50 and 2:16 from Saturday morning on.
1:59 just boggles my mind. I gotta get in the right seat with YOU next time. That's amazing.

Every session I would find another tenth, but I had a passenger with me every session, so never got to see how it would do without someone adding weight.
