Last rumor I heard this past fall, I believe it was Don Panoz, or someone similar, who was taking a proposal forward on reviving the facility.

Yes, I did two SCCA driver's school, several regional races, National races and a Formula Atlantic race. This was from 1970-1975. It was an amazing track and hopefully will be revived. I have heard that the golf course has run into environmental problems and the town is considering the track as a lesser of two evils. It would certainly be great to be able to drive there again.

"The Bridge" closed down 1 year before I got the DE Bug. I am so sad I did not drive that world class track.

Maybe there's still hope...

This is good news!!! Not only would it be good to get the Bridge back, but there are way too many golf courses around here(Northeast). They built 17 in the past two years in my area...Yikes...

Cheers, James

I was at what is left of "Bridehampton" last year. Alot of the track was gone. The front straight and downhill are still there. The bridge is also still there. Is Panoz thinking of rebuilding from scratch the areas that have been demolished?

This is my promise: If Panoz revives the Bridge I will commission and hang a museum-quality oil painting portrait of him in my living room.

if those "hamptony" types are objecting to a private golf course, imagine how they're going to react to a noisy, oil dropping, exhaust producing trailer towing, crowd seeking, traffic causing race track - sorry, nice as it would be, my bet is no way, no how....not even considering the ;land values.... now, the old grumman plant in calverton - now we're talking - and a lot easier to get to...any body know Panoz well enuf to drop him a line?

There was a proposal for the Grumman property but it never got anywhere. Info here.

Does anyone have any in car video from Bridgehampton? I'd like to see a bit of what I missed.

I would love an in car video of the Bridge too.
I raced a GT-350 there back in the 80’s and I would have loved to run the 944 there. The turn 1,2,3 set up was always a favorite!
I do find it hard to believe that the track will come back. The aerial pictures show that not much is left and the golf course is in ‘full swing’.
I can only hope that all the locals that fought to get rid of the ‘noisy’ track get deal with the contamination of their aquifer from the golf course……

I have in car video of the Bridge but it is very poor quality (pre-digital, no image stabilization and it is late in the day with sun glare). That said, the poster earlier who said "not for the faint of heart" is right! Nonetheless, awesome track. I'm happy to have had 18 days there.

My all time favorite track for sure. I ran in about 15 DE's there in the early 90's in my 944 T. Best time of 1.53. I wonder how fast I could do it now with all my new mods. Turn 1 and 2 would lift my passenger 4" off the seat at 135 mph. That track requires big *****. Dentists play Golf.

I have around 50 days of track time at the Bridge. It was an awesome track, very fast and very dangerous. I saw many people wreck their cars there. If you went off you were in soft sand, try to yank the car back on to the track and it would roll. At one BMWCCA event three cars rolled that weekend. The track surface was in pretty poor condition when I drove there, but it was still the one of the best track layouts around. Stirling Moss said it was the most challenging track in the US. I really miss it. However I can understand why the owner did what he did. He was not making any money off the track, paying Long Island (read very high) taxes, and the town would not work with him to allow him to renovate the track to bring in some professional series races. The people who live in the area are extemely short sighted, but then again they are wealthy and would not tolerate such an activity in thier back yard. I am sure that businesses in the area have lost revenue. I do not think that golfers (even though I am one) will be spending money on hotels etc to play there as we did. Besides I think it is a privete course. Sad to say, but with the amount of work that has been done on the golf course already, the amount of work required to rebuild the track, the price that the property is worth, and the unwillingness of the town to permit racing there again, I really think that the track is lost and gone forever.
