The F-1 Gridwalks have come up lame...
It's painful to watch. Former drivers who aren't good interviewers, sticking microphones in the faces of current drivers and team principals who don't want to talk to them. And who cares what the Hollywooden stiffs think.
Even the return of grid girls might not save it.

I dunno, I think Brundle can be pretty funny--has a bit of smartass in him I do think the stick-a-mic-in-my-face-right-after-the-race-in-parc-ferme-and ask-me-stupid-questions stuff is lame.
As for Buxton, I'm glad he's gone and hope he never comes back.

Say what you want about Will Buxton but I thought he was really good on the grid. He knew who the important people were, usually asked some pretty good questions, and the camera man he worked with always lingered for a few seconds on any passing grid-girl. What more could you want?
But this year...

It seems to me Buxton was a today kinda guy who knew the players in today's F1 the broadcast team on the grid now are looking for old relationship interviews and the celebrity focus is a waste of time
Do love the lack of commercial time.

Originally I didn't like Buxton, then he got better and now I really miss him. He was a bit hyperactive, but he got good people to talk to, and I think because he asked one quick shot question, they were willing to take the couple seconds to answer (he didn't waste their time with a dozen goofy questions).
I met him briefly at Montreal in a bar - he's a very cool and down to earth guy off camera. And just loves F1 and the entire circus that surrounds it.

Buxton does the Paddock pass for F1 TV now.
Yes, I would also like to see him on the grid walk. He also seemed more productive, getting interviews, working from the back of the grid, instead of aimlessly walking around the kids or the teams that are not going to talk anyway. Current walks are trying to catch the salmon swimming upstream. Buxton swam along with the salmon. Theory of Relativity says differential speed is zero and you get longer interviews. Just say'n.

Gents, let's not forget how the US broadcast was a trainwreck in previous years. I'm enjoying the new announcers/format much more. And the F1 youtube channel produces some great recap videos within hours.

It's now worlds better than it was--Croft could use a bit less caffeine and I'm getting the hang of DiResta's accent but IMO Diffey was just lame, Matchett very knowledgeable but too dramatic, and Hobbs (kills me to say this) really contributed little to the broadcast at the end.
Throw in no commercials and no Buxton and

It's the grid-walk that is tripping all over itself...
I'll give it a few more weeks, and if it doesn't improve, I'll just tune in for the race.
(Now if only the safety car would slow down...)

In the latest F1 Racing there's a good article/interview with Bernd Maylander on the new safety car--he is driving his *** off in that thing and the drivers still complain it's too slow. Well, compared ti an F1 car, it IS
