Good thread and hope you have found some good racers josserman! I race Aer and have been doing my/our own team now the past two years. we have had some ups and quite a few downs. a lot of the comments ive read here are accurate. AER is an AWESOME series to run in and so much fun and seat time and the people the racing. i know a lot of my friends and fellow nasa racers were ragging me when i got pulled away from NASA and dove two feet into AER. they were saying i couldnt handle sprint racing, etc etc. for me in AER when im in the car im driving pretty much as hard as i can while respecting the car.

with regards to damage... when i started running my own car a couple of years ago it was with a group of tight friends, we summed up the cost for the weekend and split it, but this left me holding the bag often as there are lots of costs to get the car to the track as you guys all know. we also had some mechanical incedents that year as well as some contact incidents. in the end after looking at the number for the year, having done 5 events i was out considerable money. enough that i could not do it the same way the next year (this past year). so what we have been doing is charging 2K for the weekend if you want to drive with us. that gets you friday seat time morning and afternoon for practice and quali, then if we have 5 drivers for the weekend about 1.5-2 hours in the car each day (sat and sun). if you have a lack of talent moment and ball the car up then its on you to foot the repair bill. (we had a dude at NJMP this year cause a 3 car accident with a BONE HEAD move and he paid $18K to fix the car). i wanted the car fixed and not written off... If the driver gets blindsided by another driver and its not at all the driver fault i will be a lot more inclined to work with the driver and share in the repair, but still a break it you buy it mentality. i have not had this happen yet.

we have setup a company to run this racing through for which drivers pay thier money too. even me (who before this company was formed owned all of the assets, cars, truck, 44ft gooseneck) pays 2K a weekend for my seat as well. as far as seat rental costs some teams do it for the weekend and some do it per the stint you drive. some teams with whom i have discussed the cost and how to run it aspect have told me 2k is cheap. that brings me to what cars we run

we run an e36 that has a detuned S54 power plant in it. we have a stock fuel tank... this car with clean driving and as close to 3 min pit stops is a class 4 winning car. with more fuel capacity it would make it alot easier as we sometimes have to pit an "extra" time. we have been working on getting a second car in the mix as more of a seat rental car for which we take in drivers, field a pro in the car and part of your fee gets you pro coaching all weekend. our 2k fee also includes your meals and lodging for the weekend. the second car we are working on for 2019 should be a class 3 car. i am building a 325 chassis with a stock s52 running stock dme and stock wireing. the suspension and subframes and all suspension bits will be m3. car will have no aero.

anyways i can talk/write at length about AER. and find that when i write long internet posts they tend to be a bit scattered, so if anyone wants to hear more about my AER experience feel free to PM and we can chat more.

if your thinking about it, do it!!!! even if its a miata or a class 1 car or if you have the financial ability to field a GT4 CS or similiar out there do it!!! you wont regret it and will get the most seat time you ever have, have some of the best battles on track you ever have had, i guarantee it.

my IG is zmon2086 - there are lots of photos and some vid there..

I’m considering selling the car, as I’m paying a fortune to store it with the trailer.

If I can get a team of guys committed to doing at least 2-4 race weekends, and someone has the ability to store the 28’ trailer within 45mins or so of Norwalk, CT, I would be happy to work something out on the price.
