Actually, in a well-driven car like Martinson, White, Buckley, you or Evan, it should.
I will come up with a nice overlay of one turn showing various corner speeds sometime when I am in Maine next month.
You would all be surprised at the similarities, even different cars, power, tires, between top drivers in all classes except the very front running cars of the weekend.
In the end, it's how close to the apex from corner entry you can carry speed, and how fast your car can accelerate off, IF you drive with "controlled aggression" on that right side pedal!

Jimmy was as quick as J and K in an I car and Ryan was quicker than me in an H car. I tended to make my time in different sections of the track entirely.
Who is behind the wheel has more to do with track position than the letter on the car...

I find this to be a consistent trend that the top drivers in any class at this level can be as quick if not quicker than mid to slow pack drivers one or even two classes above them.

I think a lot of frustration comes from the simple fact that different cars make speed in different places. For example, for Clarke or Seb to be as quick as they are, they both have to COMMIT.
They "send it" into corners and allow the steering scrub, slip angle (balanced, not oversteer or understeer) to take the rest of the speed off, the speed that they DIDN'T take off with brakes BEFORE entry...
If a more powerful car breaks their ability to "send it" by overslowing (or slowing in ADVANCE of when it's needed by Clarke or Seb), then they're screwed... It kills the lap.
I can see how it would have been worse at Barber for Clarke than even here.
Ideally, drivers have to be able to anticipate, especially in qualy, so that this doesn't happen. They also need to recognize that this is a fundamental part of mixed class racing, especially at the amateur level.

I wished some people had the sense not to park themselves between the first place car and second place car in a different class when they are not battling anyone else.
As Peter said, you can't make everyone happy.

next year, my recommandation based on vir lap time is to put gtb1 to gtb3 with h, i, j, k and 996 spec and 997 spec in the same group.
Put e-f-g , spec boxster and sp2-sp3 together
Have cup run their own show with modified 993 and other killer cars
How's that sound to everyone?
