Austin Schnell Fest COTA June 2018

230 isn’t a full field, we managed >300 at the last SchnellFest. We trialed some train-reducing features like extended passing zones for the upper run groups and self-grid by pace during the PCA Club race DE and had extremely positive comments, with up to 60 cars per run group. These features will be in place for SchnellFest and I am pleased to report that there will be no concrete barrier on pit road, so garages will be accessible from pit road. Making for better traffic flow and more efficient garage use. There is also a bonus feature that we are working on, but only a teaser for now 😉

No, better.... We will grid in the parking lot at the east end of the paddock, near medical. By gridding in the paddock we can use our fast, faster and fastest lines for the Yellow, White and Red run groups. We found that greatly reduces trains as the faster drivers/cars can get out on a relatively clean track and the field is spread out before the fastest cars catch the slower cars. By doing away with the pit wall, those with a garage can enter the garage from the pit lane and then exit to the paddock to go to grid. This also facilitates getting cars on track quicker for each run group.

The run groups are shown on Club Registration, the assignment to a run group is done by the CDI based on experience and PCA instructor evaluations. If you haven’t run with PCA then a the assignment is based on the detailed driver profile in Club Registration with confirmation by a reference.
There are 5 groups:
Green
Blue & Blue Solo
Yellow
White
Red = instructors

On-Site tires will be there for tire support. They are full-service, will have some popular sizes on site and can also bring what you want to the track and mount them for you there. They keep their truck about 6 miles from where I live in DFW. They were at the November Schnellfest last year. I hear they are going to add a permanent truck to the Houston area soon, and possibly Austin. They started in the Denver area. https://on-sitetires.com/
