Default Cold weather balaclava

Hi Guys,

Any suggestions for a nice cold weather balaclava for an open cockpit car?

Thanks!

I'm impartial to the TraqGear products because Roger makes such good stuff. The 2 layer is really comfortable.

Heavier is the G-Force double layer and might be a bit warmer.

You might look at industrial sources too, although they won't have an SFI/FIA rating. I have a thick nomex balaclava that's designed to keep you warm and safe when working outside on heavy oil/gas machinery. It's always hot here so I've never worn it on track.

Honestly...if SFI rating isn’t a concern (though for racing it should be) a ski mask would work...

Not the question you're asking but if your hands are getting chilled in the open cockpit, put on some purple nitrile gloves under your nomex gloves. Keeps the wind chill down. I realize this is a terrible safety violation but if you NEED to get out and drive open cockpit when it's cold, then,...well you know.

Search for gear aimed at firefighters. Lots of options and fireproof. Some examples

The helmet doesn't do the job? I know its open cockpit but I find that surprising.

I accidentally ordered some for drag racing instead of road racing. The have a different spec and were very thick and heavy. Also realize a more substantial headsock may not fit in your helmet.

If a significantly thicker balaclava can fit while you are wearing your helmet we need to talk about how poorly your helmet fits the rest of the time.

If wind is getting up under the helmet and calling you, you can get a helmet skirt that is nomex. Common in the drag racing world.

As for gloves, if that is an issue. Find a pair that has a higher percentage of leather.
