Default PFC 08...sound like a bus on the track

Listers,

First track day day with the new 997.2 Carrera S and had a great time getting back to the track. Historically I ran Pagid yellow or black, but thought I would give PFC a try with their easier bedding process. Well, they performed fine, but even once bedded and up to temp they squealed like a pig at every brake zone. The rest of the setup is stock calipers and cross drilled rotors.

I haven’t read of many others dealing with such squealing issues on the track and am wondering if I can do anything to address it as it is a bit distracting and somewhat embarrassing on the track. What alternatives are there for me?

thanks,
-Skip

If PFC's are squeeling, you're not getting them hot enough. You have to really get them to temperature--stop hard and release smoothly after long straights. I've run the pfc compounds for years on a variety of p-cars with stock rotors, and even without spiders installed they're quiet on track, provided I get them hot.
If you're kind of tentative in the brake zone, they're noisy as heck, as they are on the street.

What bedding process on pagid? If new rotors or using a different compound should be the same for all pads,

but if your just throwing new pads on the same rotors.....bringing them up to temp in a typical easy way, aka braking a little earlier for the first 3 or 4 laps and being sure not to drag the brake is all that is needed.....got this from a pagid tech trying to figure out best compounds.

check your temps at the caliper and rotor and compare PFC to pagid....may help in your decision (alcon caliper temp stickers and rotor paint)

I ran the 08's on my 997 and had the same experience.... once up to temp on track - they were quiet - but anytime off track they were obnoxious.

I have run pfc11's on the track, and on the street... never really squeal... even on the street...

11's are a different animal than 8's

^^^^^that.

I run 06's now on my 996 and they are REALLY quiet - like, streetable quiet. Again - I could never get the 8's to quiet down at all....

Agree about PFC 08's and getting them hot. When up to temp on track, they are great and don't squeal. On the street, they are noisier than the garbage truck.

Thanks for the responses.

I've talked to a couple of people who really know their stuff and they say my experience isn't out of the norm...some people have this with the 08s and I've been recommended to move to the PFC11s. Thoughts on the 11s?

^

1) Use your brakes with 8s and don't drive like you're competing with FL retirees on city streets.
2) See post 5 & 6 for 11s

I got plenty of heat into the 08s on my last track event, so don't think that is it. I tend to be pretty aggressive in the brake zone and I definitely have not become a Florida driver (at least on the track).

VR - what did you mean by 11s are a different animal than 08s? Just trying to understand.

Thanks,
-Skip

Even though they are the same brand, they differ widely in initial bite, release, temperature, wear, and rotor friendliness characteristics
