They controlled their entry speed better so that they COULD go back to power quickly, unlike many others who would fight a rear guard action and have to “wait” on the speed to drop enough to be able to do that. By then, those that had to wait were much further into the corner than the 911 and 912 cars.

And that is an opportunity for improvement, as the burst of throttle between T3-T5 and T15-T16 IS a worthwhile benefit. Got plenty of 1:54 (PC) to 1:58-2:03 (GT/LM and GTD) data to prove that.

Drivers often do what they THINK they can do, not what the car CAN do... great race to watch though between 25 and the P-cars!

What's up with the GT3R? Non competitive at Daytona and now Sebring. Looked like the 911 would win Bathurst on a fuel saving strategy - but couldn't track if they had that same fuel advantage at Sebring. Looked like it was down on power?

Great stuff. All three wining teams did terrific, and Joest is coming. Surprised by the engine woes of Penske.
GTD saw seven different manufacturers take the first seven places, history making!

Depends on the class. More than half what Daytona costs...

Am's can drive in P2 or GTD...

the head of Porsche Motorsports NA spoke to us in the tent. He mentioned the annual running costs of the various cars. I remember him saying the GT3 Cup car costs $300k/ year. I believe he said GTD was somewhere around $1mil, and if memory serves, GTLM was at least double the cost of GTD, or maybe even 3 times the cost.

Hahaha! Yes, and you need to BUY the car, spares and the support equipment on top of that, that’s just a conservative estimate of running costs.

Front running efforts for GT3 and GTD are more
than that. GT3 plus 50%, GTD plus 35%.

The problem is that the cost for Daytona can be as much as the rest of the season, what with the required attendance and running at the Roar, the timing out of many components in the car, et centers.

Tough Business!

That's quite an understatement - I have looked at the GT3 CUP (Gold Class) and found that just registering and running the car for one typical IMSA race weekend with consumables and track support is about $50k. That does not account for any spares and damage which can easily add up to that same amount or exceed it plus of course the car. Now, they treat you very well and there is a lot of track time, but still....
