Default 991 Seat Exchange

I finally installed proper seats in my 991, now I have an airbag warning light. In the older cars you could trick this out with a resistor but it looks like this doesn't work on the newer cars. Has anyone figured out how to turn off the airbag warning light on a 991?

TIA

You need to use a PIWIS tool.

And you need to reboot / reprogram the entire system with the PIWIS. Which means if you **** up, you brick the entire car.

GLWT.

Better to just live with the airbag light. IMO.

If the airbag warning light is always on, how does one know if the airbags still in place are not malfunctioning?

You don't.

Unless you check with a PIWIS (or an OBD II reader)

I don't know about the 991 specifically. But in a 987 you can code each airbag individually with durametric pro. Easy peasy

There is no known solution. PIWIS will not allow this airbag light to be turned off on the 991.

That's quite a problem isn't it?

So if one were to be involved in an accident (let's say on the way to track) and the steering wheel/front airbags don't deploy, it's not possible to know whether those airbags were faulty from the factory, whether it was the seat install that messed them up, or whether they might've developed a problem sometime after the seat install.

I'm currently having a lot of trouble staying in place on track w the sofa seats, so I'm considering getting race seats + harness but this airbag light issue is a problem.

Yea, this is what I got from my shop as well. Was hoping somewhere out in the land of RL had cracked the code.

David - thanks for the black electrical tape recommendation since my goto tape is gray duct tape

I speak from a position of experience! That piece of electrical tape has been covering my airbag light for two years now.

I did the same thing in my first 986 after I put a proper steering wheel in the car. Problem solved.

On the GT4 you have to have the OEM seat installed to have the airbag light turned off with the PIWIS. Then you swap the seats out. I have not done this myself, but there are threads on this in the GT4 forum.
