Default CG Lap belt lock for instructors?

I have factory 3 point seat belts in my 2003 996 C2 Coupe.

I purchased a CG lap belt lock for DE events.

I know the PCA rules state that seats and restraints need to be the same for both sides.

Should I have a lap belt lock for the instructors?

Thanks for help
David

I suppose it is possible that some safety chair persons may require it. It's also possible that some instructor could say that it is not a part of the car's original safety equipment, not proven to be effective or even safe, and refuse to use it. I wouldn't take that approach, but someone might. The CG lock is intended to help you stay in one place while driving so that you don't have to work quite so hard at staying put. It is not intended to be a safety device per se. My opinion is that few safety chairs would require the use of it on both sides of the car.

I never thought of the device in that way.

Now you have me wondering if it has any negative affect on factory safety designs and devices.

While it isn't 'required', it's only a $60 item. Your instructor will thank you for the additional support

I tried one...couldn't get it to work...returned it for refund, as promised, and never heard boo from the company that seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth.

I don’t personally think they are unsafe. But like everyone else here, I’ve never seen any data. I was just making the point that you could see all sort of opinions.

I can't imagine how a CG Lock would create any unsafe condition. I've used a CG Lock for many years with 3 point belts and find it's worth its weight in gold. The manufacturer (Lap Belt Cinch, Inc.) seems to still be in business, albeit without a website. CG Locks remain available for sale from various vendors, including through Amazon.

I'm not familiar with this item, but if you have power seats you can do pretty well by putting the seat way back, yanking on the shoulder belt to force it to lock, then running the seat back forward to cinch them down. It works pretty well to hold you tightly in place (for a 3 point).

This ^^^. Use standard feature of factory safety system with the belts.

Same here, I've done the "yank" the belt. It works quite well and it locks the top portion of the belt, not just the lap portion that the CG lock does. On another note, if you have an instructor next to you, do you need a CG lock? Save it for when you are by yourself.
