Transponders at Sebring club race?
Just got this racer update from PCA does this mean my old red transponder will not work next weekend? Totally confused

"Transponders: Every racecar must have a transponder installed that is compatible with the PCA Timing & Scoring system. The compatible transponder, sold by MyLaps.com, is the X2 replacing the old AMB/classic transponders (which, while still available for sale on the web, are no longer supported by My.Laps). The X2 transponder requires a subscription. More information is available at MyLaps.com - https://speedhiveshop.mylaps.com/
Note: Racers should check to make sure that their transponder subscriptions are current before arriving at a race event."

exactly what I need: a last minute rule change just for my first rookie race to disrupt the already complex logistics.... I hope its just a badly worded paragraph

This is on Pegasus Racing's site -
Don't worry, the X2 system and X2 transponders are backwards-compatible. TranX and X2 transponders will both work with all existing AMB/MyLaps systems. Even if your rule book still specifies "AMB TranX", you can use a MyLaps X2 transponder. TranX transponders will communicate with the new X2 systems, and vice versa. The TranX transponders will not give you access to the advanced features of the X2 system (split times, real-time feedback, etc), but they will still work with either timing system.

It would make absolutely no sense to force us all into new subscription transponders when the old ones work perfectly and are very much compatible with the new system. That’s what I need, another expense on top.

WTF? I have to buy a subscription now! $168 a year! This is B.S. Not only does it come less than a week away from first race of the year, but I have to have a subscription to something that I don't want. My AMB has worked perfectly for years!

From Susan Shire Re AMB Classic trandponders:
"Yes - it will work at Sebring and beyond with our system ...
it is just no longer supported/repaired by MyLaps"

You guys get too excited too quickly.
The old transponders are just fine. It's just that you can't buy them new anymore and Mylaps no longer repairs them (others do).
If you are buying a used non-subscription transponder, there is no need to register it with Mylaps (unless you want to use the Mylaps site, in which case Mylaps will transfer it into your name manually if you ask nicely). You MUST however have the correct transponder number in your Clubregistration profile when you register for a race.

One more thing about the new X2's. Not only does your subscription need to be current but you better make sure you have any and all of the latest firmware updates installed. Mine worked perfectly at Limerock last year but at Watkins Glen my car was invisible until my buddy updated it for me.
