MyLaps X2 Transponder
Time to renew my transponder, and I have a bunch of questions. MyLaps wants $113.08 to "Renew the Subscription" for another year.
What happens if I don't "Renew"?
Will it just stop working?
Will Timing/Scoring still be able to log my laps times?
Or does a "Subscription" just allow me to see real-time scoring and a record of my previous timed laps?
I already bought and own the unit. What does a yearly subscription do?

For the new X2 transponder you need the subscription for it to work.
The old direct power TranX units don't need a subscription unless you want to track your sessions in Mylaps.

Thanks, Frank.
PCA Timing & Scoring agrees: "If your subscription expires, so does the transponder - it will not work; it is essential dead. T&S will not see the transponder as it no longer transmits a signal. Likewise, if the transponder does not send a signal, you will not appear on race results, live timing or otherwise."
"Once upon a time, you purchased a transponder, installed it on your car, and forgot about it. It might provide years of service (over 10 years for some individuals) all for the single purchase fee. Now, with the X2 system, you must keep renewing a subscription, and then reloading that subscription into the RaceKey (separate component from the transponder), and all this requires a computer and a MyLaps account. Much more complicated - but I guess that is progress. Be sure to renew your subscription before your next race, and do it from the comfort of your home. At the track renewal has not been the most stress-free process for our racers."
Merry Christmas,
