Default HPDE 997.2 GTS

Hey all,

I recently acquired a new to me 997.2 GTS with low miles. The car is in outstanding condition and has a clear bra on the entire front half including mirrors. I really want to DRIVE it at the track (HPDE), but am concerned about any cosmetic damage I may incur. What are your thoughts on this? Rock chips, chip or scratches on the black wheels etc. I've considered clear bra on the rest of the vehicle. Thank you!

Travis

I'd buy a second set of wheels/tires and get out there. If it has clear bra on the front clip and front of rear fenders I would have peace of mind that it won't get cosmetically harmed.

You will likely damage the car at the track. Risks range from stone chips to total loss. Manage those risks however you see fit, and have a great time!

Put some temporary track wrap on it and drive it. Or you can put some clear bra on it and replace it when worn. Also purchased track insurance. There are companies that will sell you packages for the season or so per weekend depending on track.if you track a lot it's not a matter of if but when there will be some mishap or off etc. Comes with the territory.

No need for anything if you already have clear bra. Just buy yourself a good tire pressure gauge and a torque wrench and go for it.

You're really unlikely to hurt the car as a first or second day novice, especially so at njmp (your tag says Jersey) and with a bra. No second thoughts.

Come back next July after a few events and we'll gladly help you spend your retirement account on a racecar, trailer and dualie. But all good things start with first steps Just do it.

Just garage queen it and drive it on nice days to C&C.

If you have to come on a forum to get answers to your question you are in the wrong place.

Thanks All. I did an HPDE in my E46 M3 about 6 years ago at NJMP and was surprised how safe it felt (lots of runoff). I am dying to get out there in the 911 (granted, the M3 was 1/3 of the value of this car...)
I will absolutely purchase the insurance.

You'll beat the **** out of it but it will be worth it. Cars can be repainted, wheels fixed. I put around 100 days on my 997.2 RS before I retired it for the race car. Once you track it you can't "un-track" it. Will be worth the good times though.

If you're worried about chips put a clear shield on the windshield, in front and behind the rear tires and have fun!

I've been tracking my 06 S for years. My car has no clear bra and still looks pretty darn good for a car of it's age. Any rock chips I've got are from jerks changing lanes illegally on the freeway.
I don't tape anything, or worry about it. You'll get some rubber streaks that are best to remove after the event but that's easy enough. I always put a nice layer of wax on the car before events
and just drive it. You have a clear bra so you'll be fine.
