Default Tracking a 996TT?

Has anyone done extensive track time in a 996TT? How well do they seem to hold up and how tough is it to manage the power when exiting the corners.

Car management power wise is easy, cars fast and forgiving. Not enough brake however. At the stock weight, you will experience significant fade by the end if most de sessions lasting 20,25 mins. That being said if you step up the brakes to a larger rotor and six pot front, move the stock 4 pots to the rear, you should be good. 997 gt3 or 997 tt rotors and calipers would seem to be a good route on the front and rear...

Thanks Glen. How would you say a well setup 6TT compares to a 6 or 7 Cup performance wise? Mainly interested in how well the extra HP makes up for the extra 300-400lbs of weight.

FYI, I still have your old Cup comparison post bookmarked for reference. It’s awesome.

haha well maybe...when set up correctly they are competitive with more cars than you would think and I already have the 6pot calipers, 350 all around, 997 gt3 MC so on etc.

I have 11 years in a 996 TT. Very formidable with only a few mods. Needs damping, brakes (6 piston Porsche swap for endurance), sway bars, tune , exhaust, clutch to run with 90% of what's coming out today. And that will last pretty much forever (in track years) As far as cups, depends on track, driver level, mods and how long you intend to run with said cup. Power managemen is typical 911, understeer, but worse with AWD. Very confidence unspring in AWD though. Conversion to RWD is easy, just need to add LSD. After some time you'll need to remove rubber from suspension as weight and heat cycles take a toll. Simple control arms, bushings and spherical bearings will do the trick.

Has anyone raced one with PCA club racing in stock class? They have to run at 3546lbs. I can't imagine the tires and brakes would make it for a 25 minute sprint, much less a 60+ min enduro.

Not necessarily, consider the cost of modding one vs. buying one already ready.

I bought a real clean 03 x50 3 years ago with PSS10s and proceeded immediately to the track.
Started out with a tune from Kevin/UMW and some NT-01s.
Ran car at track several times without a transmission cooler and cooked whatever was left in it (car had 55k on when I got it).
Then:
Complete transmission rebuild by Brian Copans with Cup LSD, GT2rs main 1/2/3, all steel synchros, every bearing there is, sleeves, retention plate, Cup linkage, etc...
Installed transmission cooler, did Kevin's zc16 turbos with his redundant fuel system.
997 GT3 brakes, Cup cables/GT3, a bunch more Tarett monoball stuff, LWFW, etc...
Then:
Went to JRZ remote 2ways, 2wd, GT3 uprights, all the remaining suspension in monoball, 380 PCCBs, GT-3 euro buckets, 997 techQ cage, harnesses, etc..
Currently:
Did GT-2 slave/PS reservoir, PS pump, clutch master cyl, lightweight pulley, GT3 sways f/r.

Some of the above could be considered maintenance, others are simply track focused upgrades geared towards maximum reliability.
I am forgetting a bunch of work like pinning the lines, replacing all rubber hoses, zip tying all vacuum stuff, and the massive amount of my own time on-line and under the car doing most of this myself with significant help and advice from Kevin/UMW, a great friend who was a P mechanic that let me use his shop like my own, PowdrH, Colin Cantrell, etc...
Oh yea, buy a couple sets of forged wheels too...
Had I know the route I would end up going because of how fun these are to track, I would have been thousands ahead buying one already set-up to track.
Buy whatever is closest to the set-up your intended use will be!

Yes, but can't remember much about it. Was about 10 years ago.

I believe that it was a GT class racer, not a J stock class car (which requires stock brakes, etc.).

Has anyone run a 996 turbo at the stock 3546 weight? I've raced a 996 carrera at 3408 and it was a hog; I can't imagine another 150lbs but maybe the turbo can manage it.

Put yourself out of this misery and just buy a GT3 cup
The 996T is no race car, but it is a great street car
