Great Deliberate Practice / Self Coaching / Instructing PodCast
Ross Bentley interviewed Robert Pool and had a great discussion about deliberate practice - the basic tenant to get better at anything. Their discussion and comments towards driving are really important IMHO.
Must of what they discuss is the key to being able to self coach yourself to a high level or to be able to improve yourself while working with a coach. It's also important for instructors to be able to apply this to your students.
One thing I think is important is how they discuss using a coach so as to build good habits from the start. If we consider the coach to be a feedback loop, you can apply data with analysis the same way. This is something everyone with data can do every time they drive. Come in, review the data for best practices and then form plans to improve in the next sessions.

Matt, thanks very much for posting the link. Really enjoyed the Pod Cast. Excellent topic, shows the importance not only of practice, but how you practice building skills the best way. I gotta get the book too.

That was good thanks.
If you enjoyed that podcast you should also check out the Freakonomics podcast titled "How to Become Great at Just About Anything". It's about an hour long and they talk to Anders Ericsson (the researcher discussed in Ross Bentley's podcast), Malcom Gladwell, and others.

Thanks Cory! That Freakonomics podcast was great too.
I think one of the great takeaways from both is that to improve you need to have deliberate practice, not just practice. Part of that deliberate practice is pushing yourself to be uncomfortable. For me, this is where data comes in. You can then measure your performance and figure out where to make that push.
This is great stuff and the foundation of how we can all improve.
